I can't seem to find a solution to my problem.
I know that what I want goes against the nature of an MPC. It is designed for sequencing. Nevertheless, I want to know if this is possible
I want:
- to use the MPC1000 as a midi controller
- to use the MPC1000 as a sound module / stand alone sampler
- to use Cubase SX3 as a master to record and play sequences
It seems this isn't possible. I can slave the MPC with no problem to SX. The problem is hitting the pads. The pads send midi messages to SX. But SX echoes these back to the MPC when the midi thru setting in SX = enabled. These echoed messages are played again by the MPC, and in turn again sent to SX. In short: a midi feedback loop. This locks up the entire MPC.
The only option I know of is disabling the midi tru setting SX. This way SX won't echo the pads I hit back to the MPC. But I *need* the midi thru setting in SX enabled, because otherwise my other midi equipment won't respond anymore to my master keyboard.
Some synths and keyboards have a setting named 'local off' to fix this, but the MPC doesn't seem to have this.
Does anyone know how I can fix / work around this?
TIA
