Browsing for samples

Anyone here search for samples by manipulating the record in real time by hand (ie. scratches, chops, manual loop)? Does anyone else find this more efficient than listening to the whole record?

I listen to records backwards

I never listen to the whole record.. unless I'm taking a shower, on the internet, cleaning up the house, or whatever else. I needle drop for a few minutes, and then it's off to the next record.

but usually i search through the whole song by moving the needle along

Somtimes I'll needle drop with the record on 45 just so the process goes faster. When I hear an open instrument, or event that sounds cool, I'll put it back to 33 and maybe sample it.
Sometimes shtt sounds good at 45, and I'll just sample it at 45.

I always hear most of the samples I use when listening to my iPod to tell you the truth. Then I make a note so I can go back to it when I'm home.

i hardly ever "listen" to my records, the whole way through without pause but i do have daily sample sessions. each night i pick a few plates that i haven't samples yet and listen to them the whole way thru on both sides. while i am listening, i stop an sample anything i think i might be able to use in the future. this allows me to enjoy my vinyl collection and build my sample library at the same time and of course if i come accross somtin real hot i will stop and listen to it uninterupted.
