Alesis ION Keys-Good enough to be used as controller?...

...compared to having a Motif ES 6 keyboard?
im looking to get a Motif ES and the thought of having an Ion and just getting the ES rack crossed my mind. but i wondered from anyone with experience if the keys feel good on the Ion compared to an ES6, or would there be anything lacking from having the rack and not the keyboard

*with mpc as sequencer of course, as i wouldnt plan to try and use the ions

The ES rack and Ion would make a good combo. I'd get the MS2000 rack and ES rack, controlled with a cheap midi controller.

after i posted this i kind of said screw it and got the ion, should have the ES rack next week, i figured i might as well have 2 things i want for the price of what 1 would be.... i just hope the Ions keys arent super cheap, i read at a few places they were kind of light, and that aftertouch only exists in one of the mod wheels, but it will do the trick for now im sure

i played the ion and the keys didn't seem that bad

plus there's a bunch of velocity curves so you can tailor the response..

but playing the Mo with only 49 keys might get frustrating!

Altho if you add in the MP that gives u 16 more keys sort of...

word... well i still have the octave change buttons on the ion so if i need to flip into another range its 1 button push away, so 49 keys doesnt bother me too much... it'll work in the meantime im sure. if anything i'll cop a nice controller down the line

i might have the ion in the mail today, i'll find out soon! ive been wanting to get my hands on a hardware synth for awhile

Dawg Please let me know what you think of the ION when you get your handz on it. I was thinking of getting a micron, but i still have to see what the ION is all about.

I really don't even know MANY differences between the two. But i will be getting one of them.

i chose the ion over the micron since i was considering using it as my controller as well, and because it has all the knobs on the board so you can edit sounds a little faster and hands on instead of scrolling thru the menu

I have the micron and a motif ES rack... the combo works well. I will be upgrading to the ION over the micron for the easier editing and more keys... a plus when playing orchestral instruments and pianos on the motif. If you got the cash for the ION go for it, it's one of the best keyboards out in my opinion. The MS2000 korgs sound a tad bit thicker, but there's tons of ways to edit the sounds on the micron/ion, and it's way easier on the ION with all the knobs and the menu-less os system. When you turn a knob on the ion, the screen automatically goes to show the parameters you're adjusting. No need for menus and sub-menus... you can edit everything very very quickly.
