Hydrophone recording

A couple years ago my sister was working at the Shedd Aquarium in Chicago. She was able to get me in behind the scenes to participate in some underwater recordings of dolphins and beluga whales. So I got to use some hyrdophones (which are microphones made for going underwater).

It was a real cool experience and I am thinking of buying a hydrophone to experiment with. Has anyone out there messed with one of these before? I'm curious what a guitar would sound like if I put one of these in a huge bucket next to the amp.

never messed with anything like that. sounds funky. are those mics exspensive?

i used to build hydrophones on an assembly line years ago!


i used to work at woods hole in mass where they built alvin

LOL No problem. That's why I posted this here.

The cheapest hydrophone I've come across was going for about $200.
