What should I do?

OK, I sample a kick and snare from a record and after I'm done EQ'ing them they sound lower then before I EQ'd them. Is this happening because I'm cutting too many frequencies? Is it OK to Normalize or Compress the sample after I have EQ'd it?

If your dead set in using them maybe E.Q. but you can always layer them too.

i normalize all the time, dont worry about it

When it comes to compression, it should only be done before you EQ your samples, right?

THAT'S what i've been doing wrong...the result is a somewhat more dead sound...less punchy and less alive, just NOT....QUITE....THERE....

thanks man, simple answer to something that's been bugging me for so damn long to the point where i've nearly stopped recording my vocals altogether

I would eq, then normalize...then maybe double it up with the original version.
