play w/o a metronome, then fit performance to sequence?

is there a way to program a beat "off the grid" (no metronome) and then adjust tempo to fit the performance you just played?

meaning, not playing to a click and then telling the mpc ok what i just played is 2 bars now i need to adjust the sequence tempo so that those 2 bars i just played fit into the sequence tempo?

meaning no quantize, and no metronome click. if so then just turn them off, and then from there adjust the length of the sequence, and bpm ,as its playin.

I don't think you can do that with MIDI (ie one shot drum hits triggered by the pads) as it would require a midi timestretch feature like that found in Cubase. If you're talking about recording audio loops then just follow what metafor says.

You could try resampling what you played, then load it as a wav and change the bpm to make it fit.

oh yes i was referring to midi ie one shot drum hits not audio sampling.. that sucks you can't do that.. add to the 2.1 wishlist. wouldn't be that hard for akai to program i think.

dude i do it all the time. all you got to do is like make the sequence like 200 bars or watever and clip the ones you dont use,i.e. blank ones. hope this helps fam.
