COMPRESSING B4 SAMPLING ?

I was just wondering if any of you run your sounds through a compressor b4 u actaully sample.....for a ex: a kick dum, snare etc... ? If so ....what kind ?

i uses software since i can't afford a hardware compressor at this time....

i run my drums through wave c1-compressor... but before that i use cooledits parametric eq...

i do sometimes, but then i'll end up compressing with software too, it all depends. my hardware compressors induce a little noise in the recording which is sometimes good and sometimes not.

Waves C1 compressor, L1 Ultramaximizer, Ultrafunk R3 compressor is what I mostly use but I experiment with many.

sample your drums from old wax/cd's .. they already have compression on them.. layer them with the clean ones from your keyboard/drum-machine for a completely original sound2.

Also, it's not recommended that you sample with compression because during the recording phase, you can't remove it. Same with effects, unless you have a sound you DEFINATELY want to retain, sample/record it dry, and apply the effect/compression later.

I`m using a Compressor b4 Samling when im sampling Strings etc. from Vinyl with a large range of velocitys to get higher volume. but you have to be careful `cause the noise from the vinyl is getin louder too....
