Should I track thru Mixer or directly in Digi 002??????

I am trying to figure whether or not to track directly into my Digi rack or thru my 16 channel Mackie mixer, I am using a 2000XL, Triton, and Emu xl-1. The reason I am having this dilemma is because my Mackie is 16 channels but only will allow me to use 4 outs/tracks at once, so it seems kinda pointless when I could just do 8 tracks going directly into the Digi. Maybe theres is some advantages to using the Mackie I am overlooking I would appreciate all the input I can get

Doesn't your mixer have direct outs for each channel? Normally you can choose whether it should bypass eq and fx or run the sugnal throught them, thus giving you full capabilities of the mixer and still be able to process each track seperately in protools.
If it doesn't get rid of it, you won't need it.

Or maybe, as the mackie preamps/eq aren't thet great, run it directly into protools anyway

you can use the aux sends as additional outs like the sub groups, it's not as elegasnt as having 8 subs, but in a pinch it works.

I'd track through the rack.

Go right into the 002, you will have less noise.
I don't know if your mixer is noisy or not, I'm just saying it'll be a cleaner signal path.

I'm lightweight salty I spent all that damn money on getting a bigger mixer only to find out it's unecessary, usually I study before I buy something to make sure it's what I need, but oh well, I can just sell it

that mixer will come in handy when you have other modules midi to ur mpc

Do you have an 1604? In that case you can plug cables in the "direct out" of the first 8 channels. Or you can, for instance, route some of your channels through direct out, and others via the th 4 buss. Any way you like it.
The main question is if you like the sound of your Mackie. Try to hear the difference between routing through the Mackie and bypassing the Mackie.

Personally I would keep the mixer so I can always try some beats without the using the computer all the time.
