Thinking Of Buying Logic Pro 7.....

Hi guys,

I have recently just bought a 20" Intel imac and am seriously thinking of selling my current setup to buy Logic Pro 7;

Current Setup
Reason 3.0 (Def Sell)
Mbox 2 + Pro Tools 7 LE (Def Sell)
Roland V-Synth XT (May Keep)
MPC 1000 (Def Keeping)

The reason that I have listed my main components is so that those that have used Logic Pro 7 can advice me as to whether its worth me going through the hassle of changing, what I will lose / gain (as I understand that Logic comes with alot of built in instruments etc but may not have certain features of Pro Tools LE, i.e Beat Detective etc, but I am sure its prob better overall).

I haven't really used Pro Tools LE yet so changing DAW isn't a problem from the standpoint of learning something new as I haven't yet learnt LE.
I understand that I will need a new external sound card as well (ala Mbox) so any reccomendations on that would also be great.

I also understand that Logic Pro 7.2 (the intel compatible version isn't out for a month or so) but thats fine as thus far my newly purchased Mbox 2 isn't compatible anyway and I am happy just getting my head round the MPC's new features for a month anyway.

So in a nutshell, any Logic users out there, whats it like, pros / con's etc?

Im gonna try googling a few reviews online but I have always trusted peeps opinions on here more so than magazine reviews so thanks for any advice in advance.

I have logic pro 7 and I use it with my mpc 4000. Basically I use logic as a sound module because it's easy to tweak your sounds how you want them, and I use the 4000 as my sequencer...I wouldn't sacrifice one for the other because all of that stuff comes in handy...And if it doesn't right now, it will later.

Logic is very ill, and I can only recommend it.

There is low to this though. From my experience alot of ppl that have worked with acid, cubase, whatever.... hate Logic and cant handle it.

To me its the nicest looking sequencer /hd recording app, and also the most flexible. If you ask me: These complaints about confusing setups and "logic" behind Logic are pretty stubborn reactions to Logics UI.

In order to work properly you need to create yourself some autoloads that will fit your kind of project: Tracking, Mixing, Editing, Midi-arrangements,...

Apart from wavelab which i really hate and love, Logic is probably the only software I would buy w/o hesitation, and I've been trying before buying for quite a while now. Only problem with mac is the lack of "try before buy versions" of plugs like waves / urs etc. Most these joints work with Ilok protection that are very fishy to get around. So be prepared to drop perhaps an other 800 on plugins, if you really need them. I personally use quite some Logic native-plugs but some jobs just need other tools : RVox, Neve emulations, etc.

Please if you're a mac-genius reading this, using Waves and or URS plugins with an ilok remover (OS 10.4 I think...) holler at my PM so I can hook my homie up with these plugs.

Hope this helps your descision, to be blunt though I'd bring it down to: Try it out at GC or somewhere with someone who can explain how to work with it. That way you can find out if you like the way logic works

I have been using logic since version 3.0, and the 7.2 release is just amazing. I would recommend not to sell reason and run it along side logic via rewire. They work well with each other.

I dont really understand the comparisson between reason and logic.
Thats like comparing cubase and uh fruity loops or something...

I know they basicly do the same but still they dont belong in the same category.
As dude said I believe you can hookup logic and reason via rewire

Other thing about logic: you can get software to run TDM plugins and use the protools hardware dsp for exs sampler and i/o's. Perhaps thats something you'd be interested in if you plan on expanding your setup in the future...

Ive just made the move from DP4 to logic express and plan on upgrading when the need arises.........

im with toon.. i love it, no go on the ilok crack... im yet to see one.....

If u want to spend less than $1000 on logic pro holla at me man

If your buying logic 7 pro I can almost guarantee you'll stop using your ALL your outboard gear within a month...it's got a ton of great of great synths, beat synth, nice sample player, a first class convolution reverb and some nice plugins - freeze is great for when your maxxed out your cpu and if you combo up the multi-band compressor and the ad-limiter you can do some pretty sweet mastering direct from your mix.

Should be plenty fast enough to run 20 synths/samplers, a 100 plug-ins and 20 audio tracks simultaneously I reckon - maybe more!...

cons - maybe buggy for about 6 months with it being a new conversion despite the 'assurances' to the contrary but apple are usually pretty good.

you can get logic 7 pro for less than hmmm lets say $600.
All you gotta do is buy a used (best is) unregistered copy of 5.0 or something and let the ppl reregister it to your name. You can then cop the 7 upgrade for ~199 i think.

Check the logic site for details on upgrading. If you can get the "big box" package of ebay you struc a goldmine >>> PLUGINS & VSTi!

I can get a boxed copy of logic pro to you sealed for less than 600. Get at me! i can get others too, any native instruements package!

not meaning to undercut blkyankee... but if you're a student or know a student. you can get the logic pro 7 academic verison for 299, i think, well its a lot lower than the grand price tag. its the same as the full verison but since you're a student you get the price break.

download it, take up a course at your uni and jakk the key. if yor in london that is. i know say courses cost lyke 10Gz in other countrys.
