i'd recommend the 'dubstepwarz-breezeblock' mix for an introduction...not sure about the sound quality of the rest of the mixes

I hated the 2-step garage so much I never thought it would evolve into something like this...

i felt the same way until recently...i was sleepin.
i had given up on DnB back in 2000, and garage was wack IMO.

its a new beast now...after skream's 'midnight request line'. look for that track. im gettin chills just thinkin about it. another one that turned my ear recently is kode 9's 'kingston dub'....mmmm

Well if you can't make it over there Sf and NY both have dubstep and grime parties now. I know what you mean tho it's not the same if you don't wake up in the morning with your kidneys missing...

ah, blackmarket organs...one day i'll be able to replace my lungs and smoke til the tar-covered, bitter end.

i know the grime scene is notorious for bein a bit rowdy, but it wouldnt be the same without a few rudebwoys.
right now im not too interested in seeing the stateside interpretations. plus my roomie's british, so i may try to make it happen.

i know up around your area of the states, they've been makin some moves to spread the sound, but i've had my fill of the east coast for now...gotta see/hear some new sht.

there is a lot of shite as well- check out rephlex grime 2 for how uninspiring the genre can be- will look at the breezeblock stuff though

Dope I know what you mean. My location is outdated I been in vegas for almost 2 years. I saw plasticman and vex'd in SF and you are right... the american kids jumpin on the grime/dubstep/sublow/eski ting are a bunch of artschool hipsters. The same type that jock electro but never heard of newcleus or soulsonic force. I ain't mad tho I'm a trainspotter just like them, I just have to hear new sounds innit?
If you do go over there report back to us. I'm imagining squat parties mashed out on ket and cid... some ruffneck bizzness seen?

agreed, there is a lotta sh1te along with the gems...haven't heard those rephlex comps, but i heard they weren't even grime tracks. doesn't bother me though, i can do without the mc's chattin.

those mixes i listed, i've only listened to a couple, and i can attest to that dupstepwarz mix being well solid. i tried one of the rinsefm mixes and the soundquality was pretty bad. dont know bout the rest.

aster, i've always looked up to the british for their sonic sensibilities along with their general respect for music/art...besides hiphop, whens the last time we invented something new, culturally?
anyways, thought you were still in beantown, but vegas sounds cool bein in the desert and all. i got my mpc4000 from someone over there off ebay...plus the debauchery. legal prostitution and lobster buffets...that place is on my to do list. soon as i figure out how to stop working, it'll be time for a road trip out west.

in the meantime, though, if i do make it across the pond, i heard its like 300 roundtrip to london right now, and IF i make it back intact, ie. sans stab wounds, i will let you know...hopefully it wont be all doped up. not K, at least. from how i've heard them talk about, their parties arent like the rave parties used to be. the music seems to be strictly for the headz...we'll see.

heard about this before but never listened to it, am not feeling it , sounds like its trying to copy the sounds of early drum&bass 1990-91 type stuff sort of like breakbeat ( 4hero, 2 bad mice, etc) but this stuff sounds crappy
besides hiphop am a big d&b head and of what it has becomed today with all the cats dropping new material on the regular like logistics , calibre, a-sides , a.i , d bridge, high contrast, and so on. whether is hard or liquid its all real dope intelligent music and i love it but this dubstep is yuck

respect your opinion, and i agree that there is definitely some filler out there...
however, the only things i see similar to dubstep and early hardcore/breakbeat is the slower tempo and nuances of dub/ragga flavor. other than that, its more of an evolution from the darker dnb and garage sounds IMO. there is a definite retro style flavor, but i would not say its copying anything...just the next stop on the train.
i see where you're makin a point of contrast between "intelligent" music vs. yuck. different strokes. dubstep emotes more of a guttural, physical response in me...ie.roots rhythms.

admittedly, i'm on a kick, here. really fiendin to hear it on a rammed out system. wonder if the valve soundsystem is up for rent

Sheeet downloaded one of those radio mixes. Beats sound nice enough, nothing revolutionary though, reminds me a lot of old Scorn (mick harris ex-napalm death), but for **** sake someone make the MC STFU this idle bable really spoils it for me
