Drum Kits

How do some of you setup your drum kits? like for example do you make individual kits like a fill all the pads wit snares, and then do the same kicks..etc.. or do u jus put the best kicks,snares,clap,hi hiats... on the 16 pads and do that for every bank... The reason I ask is that I have acquired so many sounds that I got from other producers, sampling,the net, sample cd's,...etc and it just seem very time consuming to listen to all the sounds and pick out the best and fill up the pad banks and make a kit...so far I have about 100+ kits between my mpc and Battery right now and still have sounds that I haven't even touched yet...A recording engineer told me U should pick your top ten kits and just use those over and over again... What do U guyz think?

man to be honest i just throw a bunch of good soundin drums on the pads and wherever there's an open pad, thats where it will go. not all the time though

foreal, some times ill have just the sample loaded up. record think i want the sample to go and let it just keep playing. then start going thru the sounds while the sample is playing. thats a tight way to hear what drums or percussion sounds good over your sample. then just load the sounds up that sound good with it and get it crackin!

I have a top 20 or so kits I re use over and over again cause I love them.

Sometimes I'll just leave my computer on and play whole folders with drums in them while I'm cleaning up or drinking. As SOON as I hear something I like I'll go copy it to a new folder and use it later on.

I too have MANY MANY sounds as I'm sure everyone here does. You don't HAVE to sit there and audition them, just get them to play through while your doing something else and pay attention.

i seperate banks by sounds. All kicks, than all snares, hats, crashes/closed hats etc

I used to do that but it was kind of wack to make a drum sequence. Now I just put the kick on the bottom row (1-4), hi hats on 2nd (5-8), perc on 3 (9-12) and snares on the 4th (13-16). Works out alot better like that for me.

I do that at times, But than again I dont put together alot of drum kits...
I grab fresh drums each beat or just load a kick from a previous beat.

When I do separate sounds by banks I just pick which sounds I like and rearange the drums so they are next to each other, than purge. So its not "wack" for making sequences.

Im about to pick my 20-30 favorite kicks, snares, hi hats, and other percs. I have about 15-20 gigs of drum sounds and samples :twisted: which is WAYYYYY too much.

my pad layout is this.

kick stick stick ___
kick share hat ___
kick snare hat ride
kick snare hat cym

where the sticks are used for rolls, the kicks/hats/snares are varied, and the __ is filled in with whatever else i need. then for pad b, i have absolutely no order.

i've found this setup to be condusive to live drums, but if anyone can suggest something better i'm all ears.

yo yall producers out there whats the best place to buy drum kits at online like east coast drum kits and like alchemist drum kits and shit like that. if all can answer this please thanks. and those drum kits that where posted before with heatmakers and all those other ones i used already thnkas
