Sampling techniques?

I'm lookin for some type of mixer/ outboard gear to run my turntable into before sampling to get a better sound than what I'm getting now. Any recommendations? I'm using a stanton mixer now but it aint enough to me and I know there's gotta be something better I can run my shit through to get that butta sound. What are ya'll using? Process ya'll go through before sampling? I know alotta folks fatten they samples up after the fact..I don't wanna go through all that. I want that shit sounding nice before it goes in.

I use a simple Soundcraft compact 4. I usually work on the sample when it's allready in the mpc.

How's that soundcraft sound? I do mess with samples after the fact also but what I want to do is just run my samples through something to color it a little more, to give it a more unique sound.

try to get a mixer with at least 3 band eq with sweepable mids.

the analog eqs can definitely give you a lot of 'color'.

You can throw a tube pre or even something like a JoeMeek in the path. You don't even have to process it at all. Juist keep it flat. Sometimes just running it through should be enough to give you a little something at the door, but still not tie your hands later on.

i haven't tried it yet but it sounds really cool.
record it onto VHS first. let it clip sometimes, the tape will compress it automatically.

it'll augment the bass, give you some nice additional frequencies, and a sound you didn't have before.

Sampling it from VHS huh? I'mma have to try that one out. Let's keep this going. Learning new shit always makes the beatmaking process more fun without a doubt. Thanks to those that gave some input.

pre-amps will colour your sound and add a little butter. get a nice RIAA phono amp and then get two of http://www.apiaudio.com/512c.html these and use the lineAMPS to drive your turntable into saturated phat. when your done sampling, plug your mic/synth/mpc and record solid sounds.

if your gonna spend, might as well spend on somethin' that you can plug a mic/line/whatever into. i find a lot of what your paying for in "pro audio" like in any other consumer driven market is the name firslty and secondly the enclosure/box/finish. so why not make something hot yourself and have some bread leftover, who cares what it looks like. some links to diy.

I'm sampling straight into my MPC from the TT over digital SPDIF connection. Do you lot think i would be better to run it through something else first or just stick with how i'm doing it? I've got a pioneer DJM-707 that i could run it through first, but i don't think that would make much difference.

I was thinking to just add colour etc when i track it into cubase

i do several things first i bought a reel to rell tape machine from a pawn shop for 90 bucks and i usually put my samples to it first , i also use a emprial labs fatso jr distressor , and i like the sound the behringer tube pre gives off because it is crap and tends to add alot of drive to the sound.

So a Behringer preamp could be good for sampling? What is the complete name/model of the pre?
