complete beats

i have been making beats for a few months now and i just recently started to actually create the whole beat. i record straight into my soundcard from the mpc as i was told going through the mixer makes it sound like shit. anyway... when i listen to it on my speakers which are just regular aiwa stereo speakers cuz i can't afford monitors, it sounds like its mixed good just the way i want it with the drums and snare sounding nice and same with the samples... then i record it into soundforge. after recording it into soundforge. everything sounds like shit. i try to **** with it and make it the best i can but it never comes out right. its started to make me a little frustrated. anyone ever have this problem? if so, what was your solution? also does anyone have any tips to make my beats have a good sound to them instead of sounding dull and far away? thanx alot. peace

i just discovered this on my own you need to color your beats in(use effects to make them sound alive and close,

i was doing this and recording in to my vs880 hd recorder into different tracks,

i would imagine you could do the same with your SF

Is your sound forge set to 24bit/96khz or 16bit/44khz? Whatever your sound card can handle is what it resolution should be set to. I record in sound forge 16/44, it comes out crystal clear. If your sound card can only handle 16/44 then change your "preferences" "audio" tab to 16bit, 44khz.
If you have it set any other way it will sound muddy and far away.

U need compression and eq. If I dropped one of my grooves on hear it's gonna be all over .
U don't need no shi! pc /plug in fx on your drums. (That's what kills it).
Go out and buy a mid level Comp (ie) BSS This will give u a close sound to SSL without payin the prices.
It has very tight compression with fast attack then add that long release.

If you can't get one of these then get a drawmer 241 (anything below this is shi! otherwise dont compress)!!!!!!!

Eq is very hard one to talk about all i can say is PC/mackie/behringer/ Are all naff!!!!!! they are not musical eq. When u work with those u end up losing your sound then making it any better.
I use a Amek and SSL Strip which belive me (you would never listen to a mackie again!!!!!!)

Try getting a 2nd hand TLA Crimson or Indego (These are not bad) also group all your drums together out of the main outs then compress then eq.

This will level your drums out better!!!!!

If you got the cash get a ALAN SMART COMPRESSOR
if you got the cash get a API EQ STRIP

Dont use Avalon or Shi! like that for drumz, these machines are amazing for vocals and smooth low bass (not drums)
