i dunno about the structure that much but when i hear the beat drop it be sounding like the snare's on the 1 and kick on the 2, opposite of a normal drum loop... thats just the way it sounds to me but they probably just drop the snare before the kick... it be really snare heavy too, the kick patterns be simple... just listen to one and try to emulate it at the same time.

The reggaeton beat structure sounds mad simple, and ussually all reggaeton beat (minus the melody) sound the same. the duplicating process is a bit tricky though. I tried to it several times but always ended up either creating a generic sounding reggae beat or some other shyt (guess its all in the swing). I do know for a fact that most reggeaton producers use fruity loops to sequence they shyt. Hopefully we have an expert reggaeton producer in this forum who is willing to share the secret.

probably something to do with the swing on fruity- you can get some mad swing on that prog....

I agree with R da Master in the fact that all reggaeton songs sound the same (beat/rhythm). It is pretty simple.What they do is just change drum sounds/samples in certain areas but the pattern remains the same. I got the chance to hook up with DJ Playero and he states that most Reggaeton producers use the MPC. He was clowning cats that use FL to make beats, so I doubt that most reggaeton tracks are made with FL.

what is reggaeton? a google search reveals it's a spanish-dancehall based music.
if this is the case, i assume the beat goes something like this
16th note quantize 1 bar loop
kick on 1, 4, 9 and 12
snare on 6 and 14
do whatever the **** you want in between.

This is what I found out from this dj/producer from around the way who does reggaeton beats (he uses the P.R. standard for reggaeton beats - Fruity Loops)
3 basic things:
1. is that reggaton beats use lo quality sounds, ussualy 12 bits or lower. very lo pitched, 808's and sp1200 drum kits are best.
2. For a basic, 1 bar reggeaton sequence, minus the melody, you need 4 sounds/samples (bass drum, tom, maracas(hat), and snare)
3. Reggaeton is "Spanish Reggae" which originated in Puerto Rico and crossed over to Dominican Republic early on, now mainstream thanks to Tego Calderon (the new Michael Jordan of reggaeton, peep the P.I.M.P. remix with 50 cent). So the beat structure is simple and does not require any swing for the initial 1 bar loop.
Heres an example of the basic 1 bar loop at 95bpm:
start of by getting a basic bass drum metronome applying the drum once every second( 1,5,9,13), apply the same for the maracas(hats). The snare falls at 4,7,12,15. Place a lo quality, heavy bass tom or drum every 2 seconds ( 1,9) to give it that signature "thump".
He also told me that what seperates these beats apart is how you break it down, which will require you to cleverly add more kicks and snares and apply shuffle(swing) every 4 bars or so, and throughout the whole pattern. Also the melody is the most importand part so you'll need a dope keyboard and some skillz.
