neptunes question

i know this forum is strictly for mpc stuff.. however, im trying to recreate "frontin" from pharell.. just to practice making songs on the mpc.. since i am a beginner.. and im havin a hard time trying to find the closest sound for the riff that repeats throughout the "frontin" song.. i have a motif 6 and i doubt pharell or chad used that keyboard for the song.. but if anybody has a motif.. what sound would u recommend that would come close to the riff that repeats throughout the song.. the closest i found was the "for funk sound from the guitar bank". also.. im assuming that what pharell or chad used in the song was a keyboard rite? not another instrument... any help would be appreciated.. thanks

theres a dude on MP3.com that did exactly what youre sayin and remade Frontin. I dont remember his handle, but if u could find it maybe you can ask him what he used. Or I can ask Pharrell what he used next time he stops by my place (just kidding on that one)

I read in this post not so long ago that the neptunes use a ASR-10 (from a trusted source, cant remember who though) to make beats . Use the search engine and type "ASR-10".

I owned an ASR-10 for a few years. I bought it when it first came out. Always hated it. Good effects though.

I just read that topic for the first time and some people are talking some shiz they don't know about. EVERYONE, including Timber, Neptunes, Dre, and the rest of the accomplished producers ALWAYS have "ghostwriters'.. Happens all the time, and people would kill to be in that position. It's the way it is and always will be.

if you good at identifying instruments by ear,then your well off
if your good at counting off beats your better off
if your good at recreating melodys with all of the above your the ZEN MASTER

They Tweak their sounds to get em how they want em...That sound can be made with the Micro Korg I think tho, it may even be a tweaked Triton sound...U should be spending your time making some hot stuff of your own though...

I've used the triton for a while, and I'm almost positive that clap sound they ALWAYS use is from there.. maybe their triggering the sound from the ASR-10, but they use a lot of stock triton sounds.

Look in the guitar section on the motif. I use the s90, and I'm almost sure there is something real close to it in there.

those are the straight facts comin straight from Chad himself i read it in a neptunes Interview ...they also use alot of old analog synths so trying to imitate their sound could be a problem
