just curious about what people think makes and defines a hard hip hop beat.pianos,bass,hard drums or whateva.....

To me it's just hiphop played really LOUD.

I had to play some records a while back at a party that claimed to be all about "hard hiphop". I'm more into underground hiphop with decent lyrics myself, but i found that if you turn the bass up really loud, you can go a long way.

Ante up is classic. Can't get much harder than that.
Of course there are songs out there that rival that but you'd be hard pressed to find another anthem as hypnotic as that.

To me the hardest hip hop tracks have been the simplest ie; Come Clean, The Bridge is Over, Bucktown, DWYCK, Flava in Ya Ear, Mc's Act Like They Don't Know, Phone Tap...
