Discuss the various methods you use in music production, from compressor settings to equipment type.

This might sound dumb to ask a question about a piece of equipment that I paid 1,000 plus for.But how do make a beat using maybe some samples from vinyl and some midi tracks. So that I can get the hang of sampling on the MPC. You'll probably be thinking why didn't I use the manual to answer this question, but I figure that maybe a experienced producer can explain things better.

By the way this is what I have:
Akai MPC-2000XL
Behringer MX-1604 mixer
Roland monitors
Widows XP
Trion classic
Roland XP-30
Numark turntables and mixer
Roland VS-1680

For starters i would read the manual and see how you want to hook up your other gear with the mpc.
Since you already have some soundsources your familiar with, try doing a couple of quick sequences with them on the mpc using midi only. Once you've mastered that you can start sampling some stuff from vinyl.

I have the triton and the XP-30 hooked up to the midi in's of the MPC2Xl. I have the behringer eurorack mixer hooked up to the stereo outs and the assignable outs on the MPC2XL. The Roland studio monitors are hooked up to the mixer, and the turntables are hooked up to the MPC2XL from the left and right inputs on the DJ mixer. Also alot of sample CD's and vinyl( from my dad.)

3 hours later: I have just completed my first midi sequence with the XP-30 and the triton for melodies and the MPC for drums and sequencing.

Now I wanna add a sample to it how do I do that?

Import a sample it your triton or MPC and then use it.
