how do you name your tracks when you have keyboards. hooked to them....

lets tracks 1-4 are the drums... your programmed yourself using sounds loaded to the mpc pads....

now for track 5... you have something like a motif or triton midi'd up... you play a little two bar melody... it records fine....blah,blah....

^how do you name that track based on the internal motif/triton sound....

cuz when it comes to multi-trackin' everything... back on... how does the mpc remember which internal motif/triton preset was used?

With my Triton Le I name tracks whatever I feel since I save the bank and program changes in the mp so it automatically recalls the right sound when i play the sequence back.
I don´t know about the motif but with the triton it´s dead simple. Enter step edit mode on the mp. Switch sound on the triton and then switch back to the one you actually want. This generates a midi message with the right bank and program information and since you´re in step edit it´s recorded to the mp.
I also do this with volume and pan (and you can do it with any controller you want) just to get the basic mix ready.
You might want to do this in an empty sequence so it doesn´t interfere with your other sequence data (actually just to be able to squeeze as much as possible out of the mp as you only need to play this back once).
This might seem a bit complicated at first but once you try it it´s too simple.

A couple of pitfalls might be that the synth is not sending out midi controllers but you can probably change that once and then never think about it again + at least with the triton you have to play back the information a couple of times beacause it might not get everything the first time.

First things first I assume you don't rearrange your equipment spontaneously so that would mean that your midi channel devices never change right. (1A-8A Motif) (9A-16A Mo Phatt) and etc; with your B channels. I do mine like such. Because I know what instrument runs thru what midi channel I don't bother adding the instrument name into the program. However if you choose to you would need to highlight and hit open window on the midi channel icon and under device write Motif or whatever. Now as for the preset ID I'd go into the track screen and do this. 0072 grit slide And that's that.

awesome you just simplified part of the SYSEX process.

read your manuals under the SYSEX section, as thats a pretty essential thing to understand to streamline working with your gear.

D_Samp: just to clearify: as far as I know this (program change, volume, pan etc) has nothing to do with sysex. These are midi control change numbers which are a universal standard in controlling gear. Sysex is code unique to each manufacturer to let their equipment do specialized stuff like OS loading or sample transfering. (Actually the internal MPC mixer uses sysex because it has an uncommon way of working with midi but that´s another story...)
