sure sm 58? or are you talking about a studio mic? you can find cheaper sure mics to..

yeah the rode nt1 is a good starter mic. I use a behringer b1 and b2. I am also liking that Oktava 319, it isn't as noise free as my b series but it sounds so flattering.

I use to bang out on the Oktava 319. It defintely did it's thing. Looks cool too.

I'd say a Shure-sm58, a Studio Projects B1, a Marshall V69, or an Oktava mk319, all could be had for 80$ or less. The B1, V69, and mk319 are all condensers and you will need phantom power, for that I'd recommend the Audio Buddy for 79$ unless your mixer has PP built in.

I just copped a BLUE Ball Mic, it's a 48V Phantom Powered Condenser. A little out of the $120 price range, but I got it for $160. It has some rave reviews I'll let you know what's up with it after tonite.

I like all these mics as well though I prefer the SM57 over the 58. My favorite "cheap" condenser right now is the Nady SCM1000(99.00). This mic can hold it's own with some of the big boys.

I hooked up that "BLUE Ball" mic last night and gave it a whirl. It sounded great for Neo Soul Vocals. The Hip Hop end needed a little help. The mic was warm in fact a bit too warm for me without the proper amount of EQing. For the price excellent, but would definitely excell as a live instrument and chorus/hook mic. I will probably invest in that Octava MK 319 for my mains tho.
