Why not get a turntable and mixer... and learn to scratch, fakin that sh!t is bullsh!t.

Is it really that much trouble to learn? and fake scratchin just wack, not only sound wack but the principle, especially when dj's are the backbone of hiphop.

U should be enjoyin the learnin process.. not findin "quick" ways around it and fakin sh!t.

Kinda harsh don't ya think.
For me spinnin' records on turntables and making music with mpc are totally different worlds.

So I don't see any problem scratching or making scratches with mpc, cuz you're really not taking anything off from anyone. With turntables there's still the skill-level&showing off-thing and with mpc you're just making mad sounds or vibing on top of a tune.

innovate, don't imitate!

Thats bullsh!t, I make beats.. and i scratch, but they 2 diff things, u dont fake scratchin.

I just dont get why peeps wanna find easy quick ways to do sh!t, and fake sh!t etc.. its bullsh!t.

They should be learnin properly.. and they should enjoy learnin.

Its sh!t like this that regresses the artform. And i dont get why so many peeps stick up for bullsh!t and try justify the bullsh!t like it can actually be justified.

i hear the same stuff said about sampling orchestras and instruments
pretty elitist there bub. djs are VERY rarely the backbone of today's hip hop too, sad but true.

wow. how can you possibly say that and think sampling is ok? don't find the quick way around it, complex. that's bullsht. go learn EVERY INSTRUMENT IN THE WORLD so you never have to sample again. stop regressing the musical artform!

"scratching" on the mpc is the first step toward a larger skill that is largely unique from scratching. go drink you some chamomile and relaxxxxxx

i'm no good at it. i have programmed some cool tune sweeps and volume cuts sometimes for short phrase vocal samples but it's not really "Scratching," more just "variable-tune/level cutoff vocal sampling"

however, when i replace one of my q links with an infrared sensor, i'm going to hook up the output to an Autotune software and put qlink to tune - the result will be awesome, i'll have a theremin.

Im not sayin samplin is, im sayin fakin scratches is and samplin other peeps hiphop and not diggin for original samples is.

When it comes to samplin propa records and original samples peeps have dug... thats what progresses the artform, and stops it from becomin stale.

Nuff peeps pride themselfs on theyre diggin, its as big part of it (and can be bigger) then actual sequencin, it defines ur style in the sense of what u learn to dig for and the type of sounds and styles u dig, just as much as how u use them. And its wack when kids come along and just sample that sh!t from other hiphop... and i dont understand how peeps are actually defendin that.

Also I play trumpet (have for 15 years), i played in orchestra's and sh!t.. and played guitar since 11 years back. And can obviously read and write music (bass and treble clef). I have a very indepth understandin in music. (When u mention about takin time to learn instruments). And i been f**kin with records, turntables and beats since 10 years back (turntables longer then beats).

"scratchin" on the mpc is def not a step towards anything good. If peeps want scratchin on theyre tracks they should hook up with a real dj and incorperate them or learn themselfs.

As for the "findin the quick route", thats all these peeps are doing, tryin to take quick routes instead of learning properly and puttin in the work. Which i dont understand why they do because learning in the fun part (everythings always a learnin curve).. but they just want a quick easy way all the time.

Natural progression. Just ask Pete Rock. History tells you that a good majority of the most respected Hip Hop producers were DJs.
Preemo
Marley
Pete Rock
Just Blaze
...and the list goes on.

Yeah of course... samplin and choppin tracks evolved from jugglin records, it is natural progression ur right.

U can always tell when a beat maker also dj's, and beats usually sound much better as well.

But even tho the 2 are based on each other, just coz some one can make beats if they havent learnt to dj.. especially scratch.. they wont be able to..

Although a dj would pretty easy make beats, the only things theyd need to learn would be the technical aspects of using the equipment etc.

But here we talkin about scratchin, sorry i should have said "scratchin" really instead of dj'n... but im talkin about its wrong for peeps to fake scratchin.. instead of learnin to dj.. because dj's are the backbone of hiphop.. they are the ones who created it in first place and what its based upon, which i previously stated

you're just coming at this from such a high horse, man. it's completely unwarranted hostility toward the smallest thing.

if you're worried about hip hop's foundations being shaken by this HORRIBLE FAKE SCRATCHING, dude i think you've missed the train

there are a LOT worse things to worry about than whether somebody is emulating a scratch on their mpc.

Nah i just think its wack and dont see how peeps defend it.. theres already enough wack music where peeps take some easy routes from not knowin how to do sh!t properly. Who knows maybe some one will come and do somin real creative with it... untill they do tho i think its wack.

you have some serious issues my man

youre going to make some music, you say? i think youre a bit too close minded to get a decent 4 bar loop, let alone a complete composition

(see kev brown drum discussion)

you just absorb what your heroes say. its soo lame and close minded
