whats better?

when recording with the 8 outs what is better to record in stereo or record in mono,

jsut got my 8 outs a couple days ago but i'm not sure how to record or not sure if it is better to record in stereo or in mono or does it depend on the cables you use,

and one more thing evreytime i record do i have to sett the setting in the mixer in the mpc, you kno turn on the 1/2 or 1 and do i sett this in the sample screen evrytime i sample

To answer your second question ,Yes. But not in the sample screen only if you have chosen a line that is hooked up to a sampling sources out port.

As for the first question I would suggest mono however the choice is yours you may prefer the stereo sound so to speak. It's my belief that if you sample a sound that was in stereo what more could you add sampling it in stereo. I could see if you were losing something but I don't hear it too often, just about never only time I notice is in soundforge. Anyway moving along, You can use either method but the stereo means you need to run 1/2 like Left and Right. The mono would be a quicker way to export your sounds.

it depends too, on the nature of the sound. for example, on sam cooke's nightbeat, the track "lost and looking" has a real soulfull bassline at the start that is panned in the original recording all the way to the left. so if you want to sample that, and send it down one channel, you should probably convert it to mono using only the left waveform...

if you kept that sample in stereo, it'd sound wierd. on the plus side, most sampled drum loops (even on the mpc) have more "width" if you sample them in stereo, a width that'd take a lot of panning to "re-achieve" if you converted them to mono.
