Making an average drum seq. dirty and grimey.

How is it done? I think I sequence my drums pretty good, but I want them to sound like those dirty break type drums. How would this be done on a PC? What software is the best for doing it? Let me know what you guys think.

I'm going to guess you are looking for that 12bit sound right?
I use Sound Forge to lower the sample rate of many of my drums cause I like that type of sound also. In SF I do whatever it takes to make them sound grimy and greasy ie, EQ, FIlter, distortion (be careful with that one), sample rate, bit rate and whatever else I can think of.. Afterwards I save the sample as 16bit wav and import back into my 2kxl.. Sounds just like it came from the sewer..

There's a whole chapter about dirtying up drum sounds in my new Ebook (ready end of January). It will include things like distortion, resampling, re-recording through analogue equipment, plus other techniques.
