whats so important about having a pair of monitors and a power amplifier, could u get away with using a hifi amp and a pair of hi fi speakers?

u could but if you are mastering your music you will need some type of monitoring system to ensure accurate mixing and also.......regular speakers can sometimes give you a false response like......................poppy seeds........
if you can afford them buy them if not work the best you can or have some one who is more skilled to master out your work for you

having a pair of home stereo speakers means it will take you 3 times longer to get a mix that translates well on other systems. You'll need to take a lot of time to figure out what a good mix sounds like on your stereo, and even then it'll be some guessing. On a budget you can do it though - what you do is keep as many crappy boom boxes etc lying around, when you think you have it right, play your mix in a bunch of cheap systems, see what's wrong, do it again. I went from NS-10's to Mackies H824 and it is way, way easier to mix.
