Cleanin Dirty A** records

How do you clean yo records? I use lighter fluid. Don't buy that groove glide ish, get some Ronson. Good anti-static also. I use it after every dig.

i just wash them with some soap and cold water and pat dry with a soft cloth, and pat the label dry to so it don't get messed up,
this takes a lot of the dirt and grime off ,

it works for me been doin this for years never had a problem

oh yea after that take some alcohol and a cotton swab and wipe it with that, that helps take of any chem's from fingering the record,

try it works.

i bought groove glide, it's pretty good, as far as really old records go, but it's not really worth the price

Yo man, lighter fluid is real good. It dries nice and quick and does not damage the record. You can use lighter fluid to clean of adhesives and gums and what not. Says it right on the label. I been usin it for years and it works like a charm. Think about it, your cleaning a slab of vinyl. Its a tough surface. I wouldn't use paint thinner, but trust me, lighter fluid is prime. It also is an anti static. You won't be pullin off your slipmats with em cleaned like this.

I roll with soap and water, then a little rubbing alcohol to get that
basement crud off.

Yo, you right about the Groove Glide. It's trash. It cleans a little but not for hefty grime. I might have to try the lighter fluid you're talking about. It's called Ronson, right?? Where can I cop?

What type of cloth do you use to wipe the records with?? It's mad hard to find anti-static cloths where I'm at.

Also, Wax Poetics issue 5, I think, had a great article on cleaning records. They actually recommended (but with caution) using Scrubbing Bubbles on really dirty records.

The also suggested using alcohol, but the 90% kind (where would I find this, tried Home Depot, to no luck) along with a painting brush so you could get into the grooves.

Look for the Yellow bottle, with the blue top. Ronson. ISh works wonders. Just make sure your in a venilated area, ish gets you lightheaded if your cleanin tons. Goto a computer store to find a anti static cloth. They use them for moniters.

My moms said to use gasoline, but my pops smokes, I dont' think it's a good idea... I use soapy cold water in the bathtub... sometimes for a quick once over I use a quick spray of windex and wipe off... has anybody tried baby wipes? I was thinking this earlier but my niece is 8 now and we don't keep wipes in the house anymore...

this kid i know uses static wipes for like pc screens and ish
he says it works pretty well

So i use the Ronsonol with what kind of rag? And then I go over it with an anti-static cloth.

Go to your drugstore an buy Isopropanol and distilled Water. Mix it 50/50 and ad one drop of dish-cleaner....

I have an old static brush from 1974 that still works today. Some long gone company from Denmark made it.

mix a 1/2 cup of denatured alcohol with 1 cup of water. keep the same same ratio if youre trying to make up a big batch. the owner of the local record shop put me on to this. if it's good enough for him it's good enough for me.

100 grit sandpaper and ky-jelly works wonders on any record no matter what condition it's in!
