the ultimate use of the mpc

crap thread title i know ....

last night i heard most of the new rjd2 album .... oh .. my ... days
basically it's unbelievable, i really don't understand how the man would begin to make music like he does, the layering is complex and flawless...

i mean i can tune samples to fit together to an extent ... ... but the guy gets the instruments to sound like they are being played orchestrally the progression etc is just ridiculous

then comes the vocal samples

how in the **** does he do it?

i mean deadringer was amazing but this album is simply next...

so to make this into a thread and not an arse licking session i wanna know what everyone thinks of rj as a producer...

and if anyone has any tips on the process of tuning and blending instruments together as well as he does....

the hype behind this dude is craaaaaaaazy, it was hard for me to decide how 8 million stories w/ blueprint was because...blueprint was on it. so i had listened to the instrum. 8 million stories and thought the beats were OK.RJ laid a banga for dooms album as vik vaughn too...anyway to see what the hype was about, i had my boy grab me a copy of thE RJ promo.....from what i heard, i think alot of the complexity comes from pushing alot of effects button. on track 3 "since 76" he didnt flip the sample really, just a str8 loop..not that thats bad, but thats an easier way to make it sound like an orchestra. i think the music is good..but to say its as complex as an orchestra is pushing it i think, some layers/fx work nicely to thicken those beats up...so after i heard this promo id say as a producer, hes good, i dont see why hes got a cult following, but hes definitely got his own sound, some nice distortion, alot of fx to give those samples a different sound..."since we last spoke" (track 1) is my favorite i think, im digging that one alot.."to all of you" is MADD hott too, but a couple of these sound like something radiohead would play

the only TIP i guess would be to experiment, and not to limit yourself to what you sample, but how you flip it...peace

i agree that he is pretty damn good...but if you really listen to it, he is pretty much a damn good mixing dj with the killer abilty to mix and match samples together to make them sound as if they were there in the first place

great thread topic. Rj is def. my favorite producer... 'since we last spoke' is completely breath taking... I don't know if you've read about RJ but he used to goto school to become a jazz guitarist and then graduated a recording engineer... so the man has much music background... i've actually thought he secretly uses a guitar in his production but who knows... MAAANNN! and those drums on the new promo? WTF? that cat's got his timing up to par.

i gave it a few more listens, and only dig a few tracks on it, im not feelin the whole SPACE ROCK vibe..but thats just me

uhm. im just wondering. how did you guys get ahold of this. its not scheduled for release until may...

I remember a while ago someone made a thread asking if you can make rock music with an MPC. Well RJ has done this with the new stuff and succeeded. IMO hes the best MPC producer in the game, hands down.

Yeah I was in total awe when I first heard RJ, but after hearing the stuff he samples, he really doesn't do much at all to change them. I totally agree with this post. After I realized this I went from awed to a little disappointed, but he still makes killer tracks.[/quote]

Blaze makes good commercial beats to rap over. RJ makes music with his sampler. Theres a difference.

please, no new jack posts on these boards. just blaze uses an mpc4000 and digs for every one of his samples. no matter what "label" you use to describe him the beats are amazing, and better then 95% of "underground" producers. period

So I guess Just's beats aren't music. And RJ's are?

You really need to listen to some of Freeway's album and Just's stuff off of both Blueprint's (or re-listlen) before you make such a claim.
