Discuss the various methods you use in music production, from compressor settings to equipment type.

first, attack and release: if i process a drum track through a compressor, does attack and release only happen once, at the beginning and end of the track, or do they affect every drum hit on the track?

second, i used samplitude for compression. i made a similiar compression curve with same attack and release in soundforge, but if i run the same track through these compressors, it sounds totally different. why is that?
i use 2db make-up, threshold 20db, limiter 0db, attk 20ms, release 100ms

anyone ever experienced things like that?
thanx 4 ur help!

The compressor will compress every sound that crosses the threshold you set.

Attack and release will only happen once if your whole drum track is above treshold level. In the meantime your compressor will affect every drum hit.

in the articles section on mpc-tutor.com have a great "101" type write up on compression, very basic and will help you understand the basic settings.
