You can midi the mpc to a pc with Reason on it and use the mpc to trigger the bass sounds and record the played instrument into a multitrack or a DAW. There you have it, I know there's other ways but thats the way I do it.

For some reason, i couldn't deal with 16 levels with my mpc. I think it's because i'm used to a keyboard. Anyway, what i did was load up bass loops from soundbanks from programs (acid pro, reason) or records that just had base. Then i chopped them up and made programs. Then i could take that and just pitch (like 16 levels basically), but have the notes in an order that was more logical for me interms of playing. Or just taking one sound and pitching it yourself across like 3-4 pad. I just hate being all of the pads, it just simplifies it and takes only like 1-2 min.

Instead of the 16 level function I make a whole bass program from one sampled note. Then you have 64 bass notes (or less) in each program. Adjust the pitch so you have a keygroup of 64 keys based on one sample. Set the note assign in program mode, plug in a midi keyboard and you can play the bass with keys. That's how I do it sometimes

just use a keyboard. For me some of the lower notes on bass are hard to hear if you are on key. At least with a keyboard you can "see" the key you are in and make sure you are not throwing out notes that dont exist for the song. The problem with doing bass on an mpc is that the way the pads are laid out say on the 1k. 4 X 4. It makes musical sense if you are only using major scales, because they are 8 notes. 1 entire scale will be spread out across 8 pads, which makes sense. But what about if the song is in a 7 note scale? Like a blues/ pentatonic, etc. Now its hard to make sense of where to press the notes (graphically) on the mpc. I mean it can be done, but by the time you arrange the bass notes to pads that make sense to you, you will have already made your bassline if you used a keyboard.
