drum programming

i normally record my drums using 1/16 but i want to know or maybe get some examples of how to use 1/16 triplets or 1/32 correctly to get another feel whe..n doing my drum tracks? ive experimented with it but cant seem to figure out how i can get it too loop correctly.i was taught 1/16 is the standard for quantizing drums but i want to expand my drum programming,im tying to get more of a timbaland stutter to my beats,but i havent been succesful using anything other than 1/16,where can i study notes to learn better placement techniques?

i use 1/32 give u more control over where the drum sounds land

also work on playing with no timing. if your confused on what the triplets are just set the timing fieild on them, play the beat, and hold down the note repeat button and hit a hi hat or somethin and itll play the rythem.

or 1/16 with lots of swing if you think 1/32 sounds a bit quantized or just not right

defintely get into practicing without T.C.

which MPC do you have?

I use the MPC 1000 with the JJOS1.

In this OS you can assign swing and note shift to the 2 q-link sliders.

So I usually sequence drum parts in the grid edit page, using the sliders
to create variations in note placement to give different feels, and help make
things feel more natural.

I think using just a single T.C. setting for your whole rhythm can make things
a bit lifeless... depending on your sounds and what you're trying to acheive.

don't get locked into using a single setting... try placing hats with one T.C., kicks with
another, snare with another... even vary that method for the last bar or measure...

Triplets mean there are three notes in the beat instead of four, that's all. That means the rhythm will sound slower than the one in 4/4, although the overall tempo is the same.
