Scratching/sampling with one turntable - Is this possible?

Well if you're only looking to do sampling, then any belt driven turntable and good needle will do, I recommend Shure needles (M-447) which run about $50 and a decent belt driven turntable about $100.  I say belt driven as opposed to a direct drive turntable, because if you're just sampling, then you wont need a direct driven turntable.  BUT, if you want to do scratches and sample, then yes, you will want to get a direct drive turntable, not really nessecary, BUT it will work a lot better.  Basically a belt driven turntable is powered by a big rubber band attatched to a motor and a pulley, which doesn't give you a lot of power if you're going to be moving the platter back and forth doing cuts.  A direct driven turntable is exactly what it's called.  It's directly driven by the motor, which makes is a lot more powerful.  Powerfull meaning when you scratch the record back the record will move back to it's normal direction a lot quicker than if it was a belt driven motor.  And don't forget your mixer, but yes you'd only need one turntable and a mixer to do all of this.  Hope this helped.[/color]

U reccomended Shure needles for $50, ive heard that needles break alot [depending by the brand], for $50 i assume these are EXTREMELY durable or somethin right?  When purchased, does alot come in the package or something?  Also on the box of TT it should state whether or not their belt driven correct?  If not how do u find out its belt driven?? I would say buy a direct drive ttable even if you're just gonna sample......because when you cue up that break to sample, or that one little sound or loop, you're gonna be back spinning the record and have your hands all over it (at least I do.)

buy a 1200, if you think you can $$ wise, for 2 reasons:

1. you can sell it in 5 years for whatever you buy it for now

2. I have a Gemini direct drive, my housemate has a tech. 1200. I am not a good DJ but can tell a huge diff in scratching even simple cuts on the two tables.
