Southern Drum Rolls

If any yall ever heard David Banner, Mannie Fresh, Lil Jon, Three Six Mafia beatz you know what I am talking about.

Are they using the 1/32 Timing only?

16 Levels?

Autochromatic Program on the Snare sample their using?

The snare sounds I am talking sometimes change in pitch & roll

Other times they stutter & roll like somebody is playing in a band

you will get a better response if you control the pitch yourself.....actually i think it is the 1/16(3) setting and the repeat note button.....but 1/32 can work too

yeah what Prah said 1/16(3) and 1/32 I don't think they are using the 16 levels, but that may be effective on congo/bongo rolls and tom rolls. I've done it and you get a nice sound. They mostly use them hi hats and snare rolls.

yeah I been messing around with the MP and trying to listen in closely to the catz dat be programming in this manner

when doing 1/32 its done in light moderation during the beat with a snare that's already playing on the track


and at certain points it does appear they using 1/16 (3)
that's only one I can get it to sound like what they doing

now i just need to sample some more southern style snares

i read one guy said he take time out everyday before making beatz to do at least 10 samples.

that's about to part of daily routine until i build up my library with the sounds i really want in my music.

Go on and use the 16 levels for the snare roll. It's ILL!

Yeah not too much point in using 1/32 IMO..
Just double the tempo, double the amount of bars and go with 1/16(3) and the note repeat.

I always keep my tempo on double (for instance i want to make a 95bpm beat i set it to 190bpm), gives you more accuracy to place you hits!

Cheech you mean Double the Tempo when you ready to insert the roll?

I trying to figure out what you mean cause you say it betters the accuracy of the hits.

I guess you mean after you place them in you immediatly return the beat back to its original tempo and they roll more precise.

I will try to experiment on this while I wait on a answer back to see if I can figure out though.

i think he meant that he starts out with the tempo doubled, correct me if my ass is wrong on that. not a bad idea to check out.
i am also trying to sample a decent number of sounds a day.
my problem is that i start sampling and before i know it hours have gone by and i am still sampling. once i start it is hard to stop.

they either use 32 and 32 triplet but they dont leave it like that.. they move some of the sounds a few ticks forward and back and add a few sound(kick or snare roll). They also pitch up,down a few manually. they also change the decay.. it is a tedious task but it feels good when you hear that fast ass drum rolls. Unless you have your own drummer then thats the only way to do it or maybe sample a drum roll but the first is better!!! I love workin the mpc step edit even if it is a ****
