how to find the right tempo for a sample

okay i got the sample chopped up nicely but i can't get it to loop right. i can tell its off just a little. is their a quick way to find the tempo

yes.

sample a hi hat

let the metro click...play the hit of the hi hat....
at the tempo you desire....
let that loop/record all the way through....

then select another track...now play the choppped bits in time....

you will know how close you are...you will know the step/time better...now adjust BPM...untill the loop sounds right.

it should be very simple to find the tempo of a sample given the length of the sample and the amount of bars. is there any way to do this automatically on the mpc?

of course, you can always use tap tempo.

no, because you can't properly time stretch unless you've first determined the original tempo

time stretch isn't magic

If it loops perfectly you can calculate the bpm with the number of samples in the trim mode. use this formula:

(1/(((Sample end)-(Sample start))/44100))*60*(number of beats)

Example:

I have a sample in trimmode that starts at 0 and ends at 155647. I can count 8 beats in my loop.

(1/((155647-0)/44100)*60*8 = 137 bpm.

atm i jus use the tap tempo and get good results, not 100% but it does the job.

ahhhh yeh true. im used to logic, just timestretches to whatever bpm you have set

hadnt tried it on the MP yet so i diddnt know

Its 100%.

The 44100 is the samplerate
The 60 is the seconds in a minute

I didn't come up with it, it's math

a beat is what 4 bars? or what?

a beat is one beat, how many beats are in a bar depends on the time signature

one beat is equal to 1/4 of one bar.
And in my example i had two bars, that's why i have 8 beats.

i dont get it, what are you deviding or multiplying or doing to get your result,

i understand that the sample rate means per 60 seconds you will have 44,100 bitrate

but what next???
