sound disks will really help you get where you are trying to go if you are just starting out. my beats improved many times over when i got a good supply of drums w/o having to spend an hour sampling before each beatmaking session.

I suuget you take the Tutor up on their demos. They sound good and they are pretty damn cheap. Besides that, there are lots of samples out here. I'm on the miserly side myself, so I go for cheap stuff, when I do spend money.
