MPC Sample: Why MIDI in and out?

There's something that bothers me. If there's only one track, and it doesn't have keygroups at all... Why are there MIDI in and out connections on the back of the device?

I mean, you cannot sequence external gear, and plugging in a keyboard for a drum track makes little sense to me. You can, but it's a bit meh...

Just for sync and auto sampling?

Its one track???

I used to wonder why certain companies wouldn't include midi on music gear, I didn't think any gear head would not want midi

This is the deal breaker, I was more interested in the sequencing capabilities ofv this new machine, thats ok. Next machine can be MPC Sequencer.

The midi out has a few handy options... so you can set it so only empty pads will send a midi note. Not perhaps useful by itself... but it gives you *some* triggers for external gear that won't be double dipping for playing a sample and sending a midi note at the same time.

Is it a compromise? Certainly... but *if* it helps you get the job done... then you can at least use it for triggering external devices in *some* way.

I am using this as a sound module with my Torso T1. Triggering pads with midi notes. Works great. You can do this with any sequencer pretty much. Using this for drums and percussion and a Micromonsta for melodic stuff.

My guess is that the hardware is generic, while the firmware will be tuned to do different things on different future models with the same hardware along with different firmwares and cosmetic changes.

A bit like the KO II, Riddim, Medieval...

I'm thinking the same... why MIDI I/O if there is only one track? Why only one channel? On a Midi Production Center.
Maybe I'm delusional but I can't help but believe they will add a 16 channel MIDI sequencer.
In any case I'll take for what it is for now

dont be so hard on the little guy. it just came out. maybe as the firmware matures inmusic will add more features that make the i/o more interesting to the skeptics.
