Forum dedicated to the new portable standalone MPC, the MPC Sample.

Hey everyone,

Just got my MPC Sample in this weekend and I love it! It's so intuitive and it really reminds me of when I got my first MPC 15 years ago (a thousand) of how its simplicity inspires me.

However, there are some questions I have and perhaps y'all can help me with (the akai manual kinda sucks and the Sample Bible is still in the making...):

- Can I make folders on this thing on a SD card or do I need to do it when it's hooked to a computer?
- Does a projectfile contain the sequence and all your samples in it?
- Can it layer samples?

I really need to figure this stuff out before I start making beats so I can organize everything in a usefull way.

Thanx in advance!

Folders only on a computer.

The projectData folder is the same as MPC3, so it only contains samples, sequence data is stored in the XPJ and no not directly accessible (its possible to extract it as a MIDI pattern using a bit of vibe coding though!)

You can 'link' two pads together, from memory, hold down SHIFT while 'PLAY' is selected (B2 button).

Thanx for the fast reply Tutor! Im not on mpc3 yet (still on 2.10 on my One), but if I save a projectfile it contains all sequences and all samples in the projectfile?

MPC Sample cannot load individual sequence files (sqx), so no dice there. Official option is to build a 1 drum track project in MPC3 and export as an 'mpc sample file', this load load as a project in the MPC Sample.

Unofficial is to create a project in MPC3 and 'modify' it to remove unsupported tracks (e.g. it should only have a single DRUM track, submix 1, out 1/2, out 3/4), this should load up with all sequences directly in the MPC Sample (along with most DRUM parameters including FX, but your CPU may not like it).

Thanx for the reply, perhaps my previous reply was a bit confusing (English isnt my native language), but if I save a projectfile does it contain the beat as I made it on the one? Thats what I wanted to know.

The akai manual is kinda confusing on this point, so I cannot wait to cop the Sample Bible once it drops!

No, mpc2 projects don’t work at all, has to be mpc3 these days. I guess you could create on your one in mpc2 then import into mpc3 software on your computer (you can have both mpc2 and mpc3 versions installed). This will create a separate imported mpc3 copy which can then be exported as an mpc sample project. Bit long winded and one direction only (you could go from mpc sample to mpc3 and then export the kit as an xpm but I think the sequence cannot go back to mpc2)

No no, that isnt what I meant. I mean, if i save a projectfile on my One it contains everything in one file, and when I reload it it contains my samples, sequences amd whatnot. Does the projectfile in the MPC Sample work the same? The interchangability between the 2 MPCs is not a issue for me.
