clear internal memory

whats up?

i have a mpc 1k, had it for about 1 1/2's and have just started really using it. ive been using it to control the fpc vst in fl studio, but i heard about the new os, copped it, and am trying to master this thing.

anyways, my question is this...

is it possible to clear the internal memory of the original samples? i have like 20 gigs of samples so i dont really need them, and they are taking up space i think.

i thought that i read somewhere that someone had made an empty folder, like a template and saved it to the internal so that it autoloads. can somebody help me out please? thanks

ps, how do i get my picture to show on the right hand side? i didnt see anywhere to upload a photo/logo.

soooo i take it that its not possible to clear the memory?

It is possible to clear the internal flash ram. I can't quite recall how to do it, but it's in the manual.

thaks for the reply, i checked the manual, the original, the new akai version and the jj 4.xx and it doesnt say. i will check again, maybe i looked over it somehow. ive been trying to figure this out. for a while!

Check out the section "Saving the data to internal flash memory" in chapter 15 (os 2.1 manual); but instead of saving, use the 'delete' function to remove files. Basically the trick is to go to the save page, and then change from the compact flash to the internal memory and delete from there.

You might also want to see the section "Setting the autoload function" in the same chapter.

The thing about it is that it's easy to go through thinking 'I'm looking for clear memory', and the thing that actually lets you do that is called something else. That's why it's good to read through the manual on its own at some point, so that you've got an idea of what's in there for when you have a specific issue.

good tip. i have it loaded into my pda so it will get read eventually. the more i get into the machine the more interesting the book is. at first though that ish was horrible to read! like a textbook or something!

are you sure you're deleting the internal flash memory, or just the card memory? i'm using the new os and i don't have an option for deleting internal memory. i can go to the card or hard drive and f6 key has the delete option, but when i switch to internal there's no delete option. is there internal memory protection that i have to turn off somewhere?

actually you just have to save something there. so i saved an empty sequence and a wav file and it got rid of the garbage that came with it

OKAY:::: Here is the scoop of what's up with deleting the Internal Memory when running JJ OS 4.xx!

To set things straight: With the AKAI OS 2.1 you can delete the internal memory - which is not the CF card, and not the Hard Disk - as described in the official manual rev. 1.0 on page 94 "Loading a Program".

However, since JJ have rewritten the load dialog it is no longer possible to use the method described in that very manual.

In the new OS you should be able to delete the internal data as following:

Press MODE + LOAD: In the load field select INTERNAL as source (with data wheel). THEN Press Window to select this drive's preferences.
Here you can en- or disable the sample assign window. Also on F2 you see the function FORMAT... PRESS it... nothing happens...

So until this bug or whatever it is is fixed, there are no chances to delete the Internal Mem but to install the AKAI OS. I also tried to test COZY's walkaround which was just to save an empty sequence to the internal mem, but this didn't work too, because the samples will stay in the mem no matter what you do....

why don't you tryng save a all program and sample in your Internat Memory and do that as Autosave in order to completely delete it

i've done that and work

right, it actually erases everything and drops that 1 sample and whatever program or project file was there.

do those samples and projects being there actually affect anything though? if so, why the hell would akai put them there?
