SAVING O.S BOOT/ DOWNGRADING O.S.

i COULD'NT FIND THIS BUT i KNOW IT MUST EXIST. i AM TRYING TO DOWNGRADE TO 1.14 OPERATING SYSTEM. i COULDNT COMPLETE IT. BUT NOW EVERY TIME I TURNON MY MPC IT ASK FOR THE DISK.
1ST HOW CAN i SAVE BOOT INFO
2ND HOW CAN I DOWN GRADE MY OS FROM 1.2 TO 1.14.
aKAI SAID 1.2 WITH A FLOPPY MIGHT BE MY PROBLEM PARTITIONING MY SCSI HARD DRIVE.

I had a internal zip250, I upgraded to 1.20, had problems.

I put the floppy drive back in, booted up, and loaded 1.14 on floppy
and all is well.

Now I have a internal cf reader and I'm still on 1.14.

mcl If you manage to downgrade to os1.14 could you keep us posted afterwards on how the partitioning goes? Because it might be that this partition problem you got might be a bug in os1.20. I partitioned my harddrive back in the day using os1.14 but I manage to read em with os1.20. BTW have you tried to format your harddisk in one big partition with os1.20 ? What result did that give? How big did you manage to make that partition ?

i was only able to read a small 888.6m partition. How do i keek from inserting the disk every time i turn on the mpc. any advise on downgrading to 1.14. I might try to upgrade after i partition the HD like you did.

If u using da 2k u have to get the Flash Rom card in order to stop having to load the OS. If not u will have to load it up every time. And oh yeah those Flash Rom cards are not CHEAP either.

Well u must have the XL and If u do i referred to the 2k.

OK i HAVE THE 2KXL HOW DO i STOP IT FROM ASKING ME TO INSERT DISK WHEN I BOOT UP. AND IF YOU KNOW WHERE CAN I FIND THE ORIGIONAL OS SO i CAN BRING IT UP TO 1.4

They are discontinued. It will cost anywhere from 300 to 450. I have seen a few on ebay go for like 400. Ebay is your best bet to find one.

Its one on ebay now for 349. But u need to make sure thats what u need b/c i have never seen an MPC 2000XL require a OS disk. The ones i have owned never required them. But keep asking around.

the flash rom saves the os so i dont half to reload it. I hope its just loose. if I did'nt half to reload it b4 does that mean I have a flash rom? do they go bad?

Well if u didnt have to load it before then u must have done something when u tried putting all those different os on there or either it went bad but i dont know much about those flash roms.

I had the same problem. Everytime after the 1.20 upgrade it would ask me for the disk (it wanted a disk with the .bin file). What was going on is that the 1.20 upgrade really didn't 100% work. I did it again, and it worked. The MPC no longer needs a disk at boot up.

This was all after another problem of the MPC just asking for the .bin file at bootup.

What problems (besides these) are people having with OS 1.20? Is it flaky? I upgraded because with OS 1.14, when I pulled the CF card from the MPC and put it in my SanDisk reader on a Mac, it deleted (or more likely lost the pointers to) any folders. Then when I put the card back in the MPC they were gone there too. No longer a problem with OS 1.20.
