MUTE GROUPS ON MPC2000XL MCD - OVERLAPPING

i just got myself an mpc2000xl mcd, but im used to the mpc1000. now i wonder how i make pads overlap each other, like using mute groups on mpc1000. i checked the information under overlapping in the manual, and i tried it, but it did not work.dont ask me dumb questions or tell me to read the manual again..just explain it to me, how i can make the pad overlap each other..

1. the xl doesnt have mute groups. you should've known this before u bought the machine. 1000 and xl are two very different machines with the "mpc" prefix.

2. the "poly" setting in the program params screen makes the sounds "over lap", and "mono
makes it cut itself off. you can assign other pads to cut off the saple by hitting open window while "mono" is selected.

3. i just saved alot of money on my car insurance by switching to geico

The XL does have sort of a shtty mute group function.

Highlight the 'Voice Overlap' setting, and press Open Window.
You will get the 'Mute Assign' screen. (Page 126 of the manual)

All you can do make any one pad mute any two other pads.

That is one of my biggest gripes with the XL, is that there is no proper mute group function.

If u want to mute more than two pads with a particular pad then just make a copy of the pad. IE. If u want pad a1 to mute 4 pads instead of 2. first make a copy of the sample thats on pad a1. In open window in params and assign a1 to mute two pads of your choice. Assign the coppied sound from a1 to another pad...Lets say a15. Now open window in params screen and assign a15 to cut off two more pads

i made it myself, it was easy.. i did the overlap thing.. and by the way lampdog, you're a ridiculous moderator, you never help people, you just talk shit to them..

Lighten up man, moderators don't owe you anything, did you pay for a support contract? I don't think so. If you ask silly questions you can expect silly answers. Namecalling won't get you much further.

This has officially become my only gripe about the 2000XL! I just got back from my friends place and hes rocking an MPC2500. Mute Groups are amazing! Being able to use multiple mute groups is very nice. Aah, I can make 2 pads work though!

I'm not saving any money on my car insurance right now. However, when I lived in the States, I saved a alot of money by switching to Geico too!

I myself think that the MPC 2500 is a piece of Sh** next to the 2000XL. the best feature I like about it is the sampling time and use of 24 Programs. I thought about getting one long ago to use as a new S2000.

Oh, and I wish I had a car a job and some money so I could save it on insurance....

theres probably no chance that JJ who is doing al the new OS's for the 1000 and the 2500 would hook us up huh? I love my 2000xl and wouldn't trade it for either, but damn having mute groups was convienent!

I think the only thing mute groups would be really handy for, is doodling on the pads and trying out some new combinations of chops to find new melodies.

At the point where you know how your melody should sound, you dont need mute groups anymore. You can always achieve the same effect this ways :

1. Truncate the sounds that are too long.
OR
2. Set your pads to mono. After you have recorded your overlapping sequence go into step edit. At the places you want to mute a sound hit the appropriate pad and set a velocity of 1.
