damn  - i really thought i been through this but i got another program change issue ...

i wanna insert program changes to change patches at my external module - the virus ... i know how to insert program changes - i also know the virus lsbs and msbs but i would like to achieve this: say - i got a bassline and within one track i want it to change between my bass at the virus at bank a, patch 5 and the other bass at virus bank b, patch 6, then back to the bass at bank a ... and so on ... is this possible? ... if so where do i insert the lsb to change to bank b - ... or better ... where do i insert the lsb to change back to bank a? ... as long as i change between patches on the virus which are in the same bank its all fine ... but i can't find a way to change between sounds which are in different banks and back (to avoid misunderstandings - to change back is important - since one change only isn't solvin my problem) ... anyone can help me out on thisone? ... is it possible at all?

any help is as always much appreciated ... and a negative answer helps too ...

If you want to inser the Program Change in the middle of a sequence, as you describe, and you have to change banks too, simply the two Bank Select CCs just before the Program Change event. CC #0 is Bank Select MSB, and CC #32 is Bank Select LSB.

You can also change to another patch while you're recording and the mpc will record the correct msb, lsb, ect., but that's the lazy way I guess eventhough I use that method sometimes.

nicone ... rob and jonespnice ... thank you very much ... you just made me very, very happy ... i already feared that i would have to change my entire and soooo beautyfully organized patchstructure at the virus ... huuhh

i inserted those program changes and bankselects as you said and what i wanted to achieve worx perfect ... however ... as it often is ... one problem is solved ... and the next wish is already on the way ... ... whilst programmin those bank select messages i came up with another thing ...

dunno whether you got a virus .... so i just introduce some things which might be relevant for this ... my virus is a kb - it has 8 banks with 127 patches each ... it can be operated in single mode (1 patch only), multi (16 patches - sort of no real single control - never use it) and multisingle mode (16 patches - with control over singles). i mostly work in multisingle mode ...

so - as i see it now
- program changes allow me to select one of the 127 patches ...
- bank select msbs allow me to select between the 8 banks ...
and this is enough to achieve what i been askin in my first post ... program changes in different banks ...

now - what about bank select lsbs and multi changes? what is bank select lsb? ... i expected it to allow me to change between multis ... however if i insert a bank select lsb (cc32 bank select lsb) nothin happens ... no multi changes ... it seems that it doesn't affect the kb at all ... (btw: is my interpretation of bank select msb and lsb til here correct?)

also - if i go jonespnices described lazy way ... i hit record on the 4k and change a multi on the virus itself, i expect somethin to be recorded ... but nothin happens again ...

so i assume it ain't possible to change multis at the virus (multimode and multisinglemode both the same) ... is this correct? if so - is it a limitation of the virus kb (or all viruses) or a general limitation for all external modules operating in a sort of multisingle mode? are there modules where bank select lsbs change multis too?

... thing is i m preparing my stuff for a concert (btw: first time i ll bring the 4k out and i can't wait) ... i want my tracks to change smooth one after each other ... my songs are currently arranged at the 4k and the respective parts in multis at the virus ... so song 1 currently plays multi 1 at the virus, song 2 plays multi 2, and so on ... therefore multichanges would just do the trick ... if it ain't possible to change multis at the kb - you got some workaround suggestions? .... currently i d go either for sending arrangements dumps or the respective multi and its singles immediately at the ending or beginning of a song ... depending where i got the time to send them. which way to go best?

problem 1 has been greatly solved ... thanx again for that ... would be great if you could share some insight on the bank select lsb or multichange issue too ...

Sorry, I don't own a Virus, so I wouldn't know if, and how a multi can be changed on that synth. Maybe someone else on this forum knows, or maybe you could ask on a Virus forum. As soon as you have that info we can find out how to get that done on the 4k.

I have never tried to change a multi with a control change, but I would imagine that you would have to do that with a system exclusive midi dump instead of a control change, and that isn't something you would want to do while you're playing a sequence because it can take several seconds for it to complete. peace.

thanx again mates... its really great to have scuh helpful people in here ... i haven't managed to solve the multi change problem yet ... i will get into this once i find a bit more time and let ya know how it turns out or come up with more precise questions ... currently my favorite is the arrangement dump way ... anyway ... bangin beaz
