MPC500 MPC1000 AND LIVE GIGS/SHOWS

I'm in a avery active band called The Suicide Dolls. We record the country and easily play 3-4 gigs a month. Our sound is very experimental yet still falls in the rock genre.

I've had it with drummers doing thier own thing or having their heads up their ass.

What I'm thinking of doing is recording drums and overdubs then taking the wav files and adding them to a sampler. Then taking a device like the mpc500 that's small and wouldn't be in the way and sending the left/right to the clubs PA and like sending the phones out put to a speaker cabinet behind me to add extra monitors.

So when I'm playing a live gig I can trigger drum/overbub samplers of like 4 minute songs and play live guitar and bass to the song length samples.

I figure I would get the 2gig memory card. I'm thinking I would break my 45 minute set into like 10 different sequences, trigger different songs as the set moves along.

Do you think the mpc500 would be capible of the task I'm looking to do or should I move up to say the pmc1000?

I dont know the 500 but I hear its pretty powerful. The problem I see is not so much CAN it do it is does it do it WELL. I think (correct me if im totally off here) the 1000 will sound better and you can install the hard drive. I can see you fitting 10 songs on one memory card. I guess if just want to swap cards thats not too big a deal but if you had the internal hard drive you could store as much as you need.

yeah I'll most likely need to go with the internal hard drive with space as I play atlest 45 minutes a set. with the mpc500 how difficult is it to switch out memory cards? how much of a break/how time would it causes in the middle of the set? I liked the idea of the mpc500 because it's small and would it would not get in the way on stage, you know?

if all you're doing is triggering a few song-length samples, you can use just about anything. an mpc is overkill for that. you could use an ipod, laptop, portable cd player. if you want to stick with a sampler you might want to look at a sp 303 or 404.
