I've got a Fostex MR-8 which is essentially an 8-track I got for making mixtapes. I eventually got a MPC 1000 (dope as hell!) and tried recording onto it, but was disappointed to realize I only had a limited number of tracks to work with. I'm considering getting an Mbox 2 Factory Pro to export my beat onto my computer. I've heard this is a viable option and that Pro Tools is the industry standard, but I've yet to delve into computer recording. As a newbie to this arena, I guess my first question : Is this possible with a 1000? If so, will I be working with more than 8 tracks? Are there smarter, easier options that I should consider? Please help me to not make a wrong decision!!!

Thanks guys!

Record your 8 tracks on the MR8 then hit the 'bounce 1-8 to new song' button and it records them onto a stereo track leaving you with 6 more to add to. Then record onto those, and bounce again. You can do this until your card is full. Then after your song is done, if you want to remix it, use the Fostex WavManager to copy all the tracks from all the songs to your PC. Grab some software, like Audacity for free, drop them in, set pans, add FX, etc.
