to tell u the truth though, the mpc has a really sexy groove, if u learn how to manipulate the functions. me personally would rather take the time and tap everything without quantization. the only the im gonna have to get used to, is doing hats with full level off. that can be frustrating.

but like i said b4, it all depends on the track ur making. for old school boombap tracks i like 16(3) quantization. for soul, and bounce tracks i usually 16(3) the snare, and then everything else isnt quantized. i dont really think using quantize is like having training wheels IMO, i think its like using gps when u already know ur destination. u get there faster and on time, but u dont get to really explore and find alternate routes, u know what i mean?

Whats starting to irritate me is now I will only quantize the snare at like 1/16th and have a 50% Swing to it and work my hi hats and kick around that so it sounds natural and when I make the beat people tell me that it is to stiff sounding, whereas when I didn't quantize, my stuff sounded off. Oh well I guess I'll keep experimenting.

I hear you.. like you said tho, the mpc does have a groove and that's because of the sequencer. If your timing is tight(which is easy to translate in the mpc), you don't need to quantize because you can HEAR where you're placing notes..

As for the feature itself, it's like a tool to help get the job done, you either need it or don't. I realize the more I practice, the more I don't.. 8)
