Im surprised so far the only paint thats starting to wear is on the data knob and the Play button. Not bad considering I painted it a few months back.

yo P,

I noticed the same thing when I painted my jog wheel. So I bought a new one and kept it gray, way to much spinning on that thing to keep it from fading.

Not exactly a pimped out MPC 1k by itself, but I did make a new stand by hand for it. Got a few more alterations to do to the MPC before I finish 'er up.

The MPC itself has the pad upgrade, the blue LCD (which I find much more readable at angles than the original green) and a few LED replacements. No mods for the Kaoss Pad 2 or the Virus, but those might come. I'd actually like to swap out the KP2 for a KP3 (or 4 if they are announced), but I'll need to wait for the funds to show up for those.

The speakers are some tiny Sony 5W speakers, I'll probably replace them with something a bit more high end for real monitoring, but I had been using them for a more portable (since they are battery or outlet powered) solution.

The biggest issue I've had with the setup so far is the midi on the KP2 doesn't allow for a soft thru (apparently), so I can't chain the virus and the kp2 together to have an extra midi in/out available. Instead I had to use 1 in/out for the virus to send midi and record controller changes and the same for the kp2. So unfortunately I have all midi connections used. I'm going to have to check if the kp3 has a soft midi through or not as this would make the setup a bit more optimal for me.

Things I'm considering to add... a 2 or 4 track pocket recorder would be kind of handy to have for recording those sessions that you want to play around but might stumble on something useful/cool to use in the future. I'd also like some way of having a large PMP or other kind of storage for holding loops/samples and being able to play them time stretched (higher quality than the MPC), but barring a computer of some sort I'm not sure what this would really be. Preferably the recorder could also function as a large storage/time stretcher, but I'm not really holding my breath on that. I've got a few stomp boxes that might make there way into here, or a sonic alienator would be cool. Really I'm mostly trying to keep computers of the mix for now.

Reviving this thread because it should stay on the front page.

Here's a pic of something I'm thinking of doing for my 1K

Needs better speakers though... those cruddy Sony 1W speakers are okay for being somewhat portable... but I really should get some 5" monitors hooked in there somehow.

Goes to show what you can do with some extra wood and free time from being laid off though. Now with a new job and no time to play I mostly just use the MPC by itself at the moment

I love it, very easy to get hands on with a sound. The only problem I have with it is the same with most any hardware/software synths... you find a great patch, but due to fx and such it can sometimes be hard to settle in the mix. I also find that some patches are smothered in way too much reverb and sound like they are someplace else.

Usually I'll back of or reduce the fx wet/dry ratio and it helps out a lot.

Need to spend more time with atomizer. Seems like a dastardly tool, but not sure I can sequence it well or should just use it to record clips on the MPC for later use.

ya ive read and seen youtube clips of atomizer makes what people like aphex twin, squarepusher, venitian snares, Nosaj Thing etc. do a snap!

Polar is nice, but kinda big... I demo'd one a *while* back and did like it. Though with the new TI2's out the prices have come down a bit. Might be able to get one on the low end of the price range. Anyway, good luck with it if you get one... any virus is pretty dang hot.

My kit is still missing nicer monitors and I really need to invest in a midi 4x4 or something so I can free up an input to hook up my Novation SL-25 when I need some keys.

Yea i ended up getting the

so no virus polar ti in the future for me.

i also read you were interested in the alienator, i thought about getting one one time but having no bypass was a breaking point for me so i ended up with the alesis bitrman instead
