MPC5000 reviews, bug reports and fellow user support on the most recent standalone, hardware MPC from Akai

I use the 5000 as my master sequencer/ controller for External hardware, everything is midi into my Motu MTP's.
I have an MPK 49 also going through the Motu MTP ( out MTP/in MPK) that is used to control Virtual instruments in Pro Tools such as Structure. The MPK is also usb connected. The problem I am trying to resolve is how to mute the virtual instrument on the MPC on different midi channels. Example < If I at trying to record hardware through my MPC
on 8A how do I mute information for that channel so I do not record midi data for the virtual instrument at the same time.

Thanks ..

Thanks for the response but Track mutes the overall sounds from the track. I wanted to just mute the notes of my virtual instrument triggered by the MPC. I found the solution in Pro Tools go to setup>midi>input devices
if everything is working you should see four MPC ports , check only the input(MPC output) you want your MPC to trigger (A-1/D-4). I wanted port D of my MPC to control my VI's so I check the fouth MPC port in Pro Tools. Now there was a problem with only 3 ports showing at first but I plan to reset my MTP's to see if that is the glitch. I don't think it is a MPC error.

track mute= the track gets muted- whatever midi info you are sending to the daw gets muted from the track where that info resides.

?Why don't you just import the .mid file from the 5000 into Pro Fools? (Even HD audio tacks) Then there is no need for syncing and you can do any automation in your DAW. I don't understand why everyone is so enamored with syncing things together. If you're using programs on the 5000 set it up as a multi timbral module.

the guy is using the 5k sequencer to play and sequence VST instruments-
and i think if you spend the scratch to get a 5k, you are most likely enamored with its pattern based sequencing
and tight swangin bangin groove (which ya can then take and stuff into yer daw....)

To answer the question as to why syncing is so important.
I have been using the MPC for years and I have a more comfortable workflow with it and Pro Tools
than just Pro Tools alone. My favorite was the MPC 60 II. That's a whole different topic.
I have friends that are computer based producers and when the computer shuts done, everything shuts
down. Hardware keeps the flow going and when they work together heaven on earth.

The way that the MPC is used is to play and sequence all external gear ( Z4,Z8,ATC ...etc) along with
controlling VI's ( Reason Adapted,Structure..etc). Plus using the MPC as a sound source.

Track Mute it works, but If I am trying to trigger external gear such as the ATC. Track Mute turns off
both the VI and the ATC. I want the external gear to play along with the VI. If I want the VI and MPC to
play then Track mute works. If the Pro Tools has all 4 ports of the MPC in Input Devices checked any external
gear on independent midi channels will trigger the VI's. So when you program anything on the MPC you will
also program the VI's.

I am glad that Track Mute was brought up it made me retrace my steps never a bad thing. I hope that it helps others save time.

sounds like maybe you need a multi-port midi interface to augment your setup-
the midi sync/ mmc and midi beat clock only really need 1 of the 64 midi channels coming in/out of the 5k-
dedicate a channel to your syncing needs, and play with the other 63 channels-
I use the midisport 8X8 in serial/comm port mode (tho it works as usb and standalone modes)-
that way you can mute/unmute the midi note tracks, while keeping the sync alive-
this works for me, like a good traffic cop :)

Do you have experienced any trouble with drifting sync to/from Pro Tools? I am asking cause someone else on this forum seems to suffer from it and we are trying to find the cause. Do you use MTC or MIDI clock?

Thanks, Boele
