MPC1000 newb user needs help

i just got the MPC1000 because i really want to use it to sample, but i have no idea what im doing and i cant even get it to make any sound i got cables and reason 4.0 and stuff but i dont know what im doing but it would be a start for it to make noise so someone help me plz

Seriously! What a f@cking request! I haven't even purchased my MPC yet and I have read the damn manual... TWICE!

a big part of the mpc is it's job as a recording device. hook your cables up to your turntable or your computer or whatever if you're using mp3s, find some drums you like or a section of a song or whatever then record it in, go to the trim section where you chop it up into pieces then assign it to the pads on your mpc. then you play the pads in whatever order you feel like until they sound good. then record them. this, in a nutshell, is the process. however it's a process that will take you a lot of time and energy to become any good at.

as far as reason goes, go to youtube and look up a video that sparq - one of the dudes here did... it's under his name and 'reason as a sound module' or some shit. you will know when you see it.


good on you for getting an mpc - the reason i gave you an answer is because i was in exactly the same position as you when i started - knew i wanted to make beats, but didn't know jack about doing it other than an mpc was a popular piece of equipment. I been doing it for 2 years and only in the last few months have i started making anything i'm happy with, so if you don't wanna put in the time you might as well sell up my friend. and, as they say around here, read the manual - the more you read it the more the pieces begin to make sense.

well ... hopefully hes been spending the last few months learning the machine or looking for another hobby...

dont feel bad. some people just shouldnt mess with music, and if they decide they will then its on them to at least get out of the egg. dude life is a struggle!

I wonder how hard it is to learn the MPC for someone that dont even know how songs are built to begin with. For me, the best visual aid I had was Fruity Loops 3 back in the day. I learned how to make tracks and patterns and how to string them all together to create a song. The interface helped alot in being able to actually SEE how it all works. With the MPC, you cant really SEE whats happening on that little ass screen.

I went from the MPC to FL Studio, it's so easy lol.

I help as many people as I can but honestly when you pay $1000 for gear you are not just paying for the gear, technically you are paying for the box, the shipping foam, any cables it comes with and last but not least the F*CKING MANUAL...so why not read it? You paid for it. Sh*t I even read the barcodes on the boxes to see if I can find a secret message from Neo
