you can alter duration.
you just can't alter single event times.

If they wanted to really do well in the increasing world of soft synth/ computers...they should try to add OS updates with new features..

You only have to check out companies like Access and the virus range to see how OS updates and added features are helpful for customer loyalty/ sales

Yeah, Access was one of the companies I was thinking of.

So, if Akai only has like five programmers, why don't they just hire like 2-3 more to work on implementing new features? Or does Akai management have the current programmers doing tech support in their "spare time"?

So you can only alter duration for all events in a track or per pad? that doesn't make sense at all, there should be that D in step edit. Man the 1000 really blows in someways.

there IS duration (D) in step edit.
you can change that for each event however you like.

i think most people are heated cause you can't actually MOVE individual events earlier or later. you have to copy and paste the event earlier or later, and than delete the old oriniginal event.

so for example if you just want to experiment with moving a snare hit forward or backward (to have a more swinging or lazier feel) you have to copy/paste/delete over and over. its stupid and time consuming.

that is my biggest complaint about the 1000.
and this is all i really want to see in an OS update.
i'm happy otherwise.

I would like to see that in/out MTC sync to be brought back also.

You guys should start a features and bugs list here. One person should compile it and then you should ALL send it. This is called democracy in action.

Some of us at the Elektron forum did this for the Machinedrum and got some cool features. But they are a smaller company. That's why I suggested democracy.

I'm serious about making the list. You should too.

if we got the usb direct saving connection the the 2.5 inch hard drive adapter would not be necessary or if we got the hard drive then the usb direct would not be necesayr..... we should choose one i think but good list anyways im sendin it now

Don't get me wrong, though; I love the simplicity of the MPC1000..thats why i bought it. Not that I wouldn't like to see some new stuff on it.

Also, things like realtime filter/pitch control via the Q-links would rock as well. I do kinda doubt that'll happen, tho...seems like thats too much dsp for the mpc1k to handle.

Indeed I am almost sure Akai purposely left out certain features such as zoning or step edit, and that they will NOT implement them in a OS upgrade.

As you probably all know, they did the same thing when the 2000xl came out, the regular 2000 could have easily had zoning added to its OS, but akai never implemented that, so 99% of 2000 owners eventually bought a XL.

I believe the 1000 is basically the 2000 replacement, it allows Akai to attract a whole new market, and then get them to eventually upgrade to a XL or 4000 when the limitations get too serious.

On the other hand, the note dropping issue is a SERIOUS bug that needs to be ironed out ASAP. to me the 1000 is useless until they get that fixed...

I hate to say it but your probably right. Still its a wishlist, so why not let users add to it > you never know something might get implemented.

I replaced my ASQ-10 with an MPC-1000. The main job for my MPC-1000 was the external sequencing job. After about a month I realised that certain features that have existed in MPC's in all time have been removed. They were there before, all the code existed, but Akai deliberately removed them. I'm not saying the whole machine sucks, but the as a sequencer of 2004 it surely does. My 15 year old ASQ-10 was a lot better.

I've already sold my MPC-1000. I guess an MPC-4000 would do the job, but it's way too expensive when I'm mainly using it for sequencing. I will try a Roland MC-80 now instead, because I really don't like Akai's attitude. It's obviously more important to limit the functionality to keep it in right market segment than to build such a good machine as possible. Access is a wonderful example of a company with the opposite attitude. Please, Roger Linn, stop making your current crap and build a Linn-P-C instead.
