Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000

The 2kxl's OS is chillin already.. the 1000's JJOS sucks anyway.. it completely takes you away from the akai language.. Which personally, I have come to know and love.. Of course the 1000 is much different form the other models in it's original language but the JJOS just throws you into this average laptop-style midi program..

The only thing I would ask for in the older programs such as the 2kxl is mute grouping.. I've come to work my way around not having it and gettin down with the 2 mutes I have, but mute grouping would open a whole new world to 2kxl users.

I think they should have an imediate mute feature.. lets say you are in track mute, you push shift+mute to have that track mute right then and there rather then mute it only the next time the midi note comes up.

As long as all of your midi notes are set to "note on" then any soloing will mute the rest of the tracks

???? He ment an "audio mute". It would be great to mute the audio Signal instead of the MIDI Note. So If you unmute a Track with a long sample that started BEFORE you unmuted the Track will play at the position you unmute it. Just like a mute button on a mixer.

thats what 8 outs and a mixer's for.

yeah, but wouldn't it be spectacular to have that in the track mute screen so when we are doing live stuff we can use te feature? I mean that would be the purpose of it. I dont know about you, but I dont use 8 outs for live stuff.

Honestly, the reason i want to change my 2000's OS is i just want to add a feature or two...or three... idk how many...

1. I need one pad to be able to cut off all the others instead of only two---note off/cut/blah blah blah whatever you wanna call it
2. When chopping a sample, i would like to see my chops and have them played individually when i press a pad...
3. Maybe an auto-chop feature
4. Time stretch is a maybe.

I would rather edit my sequences to get this done... I feel it is more precise...BUT...recording track mutes is a sexy idea... hmmmmm...if my mpc was a woman........   :D

Oh and i forgot...I want to add folder support to my 2000!!! Very Important!!!

I think it would be awesome if someone could write a public library to install custom software on the MPC.

A generative / algorithmic sequencer would be super awesome and with low overhead, I imagine.

The first cut must be the deepest, in this case.

Yes would it not be grand...

Anyways, about the JJ situation. I'm not going to google it again for the exact wording but:

JJ worked as a programmer in a firm that developed the OS for AKAI in Japan. At the time AKAI had some troubles.. yada yada.. They tossed around portions of the company and then decided not to pay the programmers of those operating systems. So the firm and the programmers that did the coding still own the code. Hence AKai cannot take legal action on the case.

Look it up if you want it worded properly

The most logical upgrade for any XL owner (if you want more features) is the 2500....

.... with JJOS.

doesnt this happen in song mode? when you piece your song together and convert into a seqence it records your whole song with tracks mutes and all...

soooo being a 2000xl guy reading this whole thread i got kinda confused whats better - 1k, 2kXL or 2500
id think 2500

1) you can do that using blank pads... set pads with no sample to mute certain things. why they didn't do mute groups i will never know.
2) unsure what you mean there... cause that sounds like something that can be done on the XL... not sure on the classic
3) the xl basically has that but it chops them into even pieces (you pick how many chops you want for example 8 or 16 and bamm it does it) after you need to move the start points to the right places
4) xl has it, i dont like it on the xl.... it is faster to put the sound onto your card or zip disk... take the subway across town to your friend's place... time stretch it on his computer, then go back to your place and stll the xl aint done... none the less it's nice for short clips. I dont believe the classic has the feature at all so..
