well thats not really true.

s3000 was made in japan, while s3000xl was made in china.
s3000 was made before the mpc3000 came out, s3000xl was made after.
s3000xl has the same RAM, effects expansion (EB16) as the mpc2000/s2000, s3000 doesnt have those, neither the mpc3000.

Wrong, wrong, wrong. I hardly believe that unless I was dumb, deaf, and blind.. There is no sound difference between the s3000,3200, 3200xl, s3000xl. They all sound great, they all take the same efx card-eb16, they all take the same filter board-ib304. The only real differnence is the s300,s3200 takes those big ass old school ram expansions, while the s3000xl, s3200xl takes the normal simms. the s3000xl came with all the expansions,EXCEPT the eb16, and ib30f filter, and no hard drive slot(you can still put one in there). The s3200xl came fully loaded. Even the s1100 takes the same eb16efx and filter board. I dont know about the s2800, but I guarantee its just the exact same as the s3000xl, exceopt it comes with nothing.LOL! Not even a scsi board.. And let it be known The back of my s3000xl says MADE IN JAPAN!! All this made in China crap must stop. The s2000 and mpc2000 is when Akai fell of and started making stuff in china.

Keep the RAM in consideration when you are choosing your sampler...

The S3000XL and S3200XL both take 72-pin EDO RAM which is very inexpensive and relatively easy to find.

The S3000, S3200 and CD3000 take the a proprietary version of Akai RAM (either EXM-3008 for 8MB or the EXM-3002 for 2MB of RAM). These types of RAM are not as easy to find and are more expensive to upgrade.

Agreed but not so much a problem these days.

Correct.

Thanks to MEMSOLUTION in Germany this is not as much a problem.

http://www.memsolution.de

They sell a 32 megabyte upgrade for the S3000/S3200/CD3000/S2800.

I can vouch for these as being the real deal.

Much easier and cheaper than finding AKAI EXM3XXX or MUTEC DMCXXXX boards.

Rohan.

Wow! I didn't know these even existed. I've been hesitant in buying a S3000 due to the RAM, but this solves it! Thanks Rohan

i rocked an MPC2000xl/S3000xl for years... my drums sounded WAY better coming out of the S3000xl than it did the MPC2000xl.... thats not a dis on the MPC2kxl, just a fact...IMO
i wish i still had it, actually.

This is discussed else where on this forum..
The 3000XL is more in the S-2000 and MPC-2000xl camp...
The S-3200xl is more in the S-3000 camp, there was a dude who had both machines and said he could not tell the difference between his older 3000 and newer 3200xl

I have the 3200xl and a MPC 2000xl

The 3000xl has a different mainboard to the 3200xl, different 8 out board to the 3000xl which shares the same one as the MPC and so on and the 3200xl is made in Japan compared to some of the china made 3000xl's

Here is the insides of my 3200xl

Image

S-3000xl inside > http://gear.studiorepair.de/Akai/S3000X ... L_PCB.html

MPC-2000xl inside with 8 outs

Go buy S3200xl's so cheap now no excuse and the better machine imo

S2800 als is NOT the same as the 3000xl

The S2800 is a cut down S3000 and is NOT XL spec, this was my first Akai

It is limited in how much ram it can take, limited in outputs (2 stereo and 4 asignable only), no SCSI option and I can't remember what else it don't do.

Yes S-3000 just like the S1100 have in built FX, can't remember what these are like though..remember the dellays but can't remember if there were any reverbs or what have you
