ever wet sanded a painted surface? its a standard operation on any show car. its used to smooth the orange peel inherent to the spray painting process. its unavoidable. but the results of a wet sanded painted surface are incredible. much nicer than the picture above, and it can be done right at home.

you have been schooled.

not anybody can spray paint. it takes some skill to paint something and have it come out right. if they guy cant paint worth a shit, $50 is well worth what he got. powder coating is alot stronger that a cheap ass spray can. if he dropped the machine, i bet spray paint would chip before that powder coating would.

i dont know how to powdercoat nor have the equipment. i didnt want to spray paint it, i've done that to other things in the past and they always turned out shitty.

Why so angry Rich? I was only pointing out that there is always one who will rain on another man's parade! This has nothing to do with your superior knowledge of the painting process. Do I think $50 bucks is a reasonable price for him to pay? Hell yes I do! I'd pay that myself so I don't have to:

•buy the products
•paint it myself
•make a damn mess everywhere (cause I know I would) :D
•clean said mess up when I'm done
•and most importantly, touch up the blemishes or completely re-do it if I royally screw it up (which I might)

Don't get so defensive...I think you read way too far into my post, took it the wrong way, and then took us all to a school we didn't ask to go to  Lighten up!

handles will keep the buttons from breaking when (if) it falls on its face.

that wasnt powder coated. powder coating doesnt leave orange peel, because its baked on, allowing surface tension to smooth the molten powder at high temperature. powder coating actually makes the entire surface into a single molecule. thats why its so tough.

i dont think the orange peel looks as bad as your making it out to be. its nothing like the orange peel in that car photo you put up. and ive never seen a new car with orange peel like that. that definately aint a brand new cars paint job. looks like someone did a shitty paint job to me.

true! but if its possible, why not do it? it doesnt take lofty expertise.

oh well, you can lead a horse to water but you cant make him drink. eh.

btw that can very well be a new paint job. maybe the guy who made that photo was just illustrating a point with an extreme example.
