I dont know about the pad thing anymore concerning the 2k. I bought a brand spanking new 2k straight out the box about 7 years ago. For awhile i thought i was riding high with the built in zip and 2mb of standard memory with no effects.
I always payed extra attention to keeping my 2k in mint condition and out of harms way, and when i used it which was every so often i was always gentle with it.
Regardless of all those precautions taken the bottom right pad on my 2k has died completely. What a bummer.
To be completely truthful i think my 500 dollar korg es-1 was built better than this thing, not to mention i always thought that it was way more intuitive and funner to use than my 2k.

yeah and you see in the vids... some people are shaolin finger jabbing the sh!t out of the pads. My XL has no pad issues.. they still work great.

oh, and when they die if they ever do... I will try swapping the sensors from an akai mpd16. I heard it works, and my mpd 16 is in mint shape ( I rarely use it)

yeah...thats what gets me. Dudes are damn near punching their pads full force in some videos, apparently alot of people do this and they dont seem to have these pad issues..well not atleast immediately.
Me im the exact opposite when im playing my pads, so its baffling. One dude i talked to suggested that maybe one of my pad sensor connectors was probably just loose.
Hopefully thats it.

i rock a 2000 classic (like kanye lol) and i beat the **** outta the pads. Ive never had an issue with pad failure.

I did have to replace the screen once though

also, my down cursor key stopped working. I had another 2k for spare parts so i just replaced the entire top board (circuit board?) that has all the buttons on it. My shit feels good and ive been rockin it for like 10 years now.

only problem i have now is issues with storage. Im so sick of this zip disc shit. I know theres a way to install a card reader, but im not confident that i can install it.

I hear you on that. there's no way im gonna fusk with trying to get a flash card reader in my 2000 classic either. would be ideal, but i cant do it and dont know anybody that could.

well I am still waiting on a cf reader... and I am gonna attempt the install. zips are not too bad compared to floppy. Floppies get crazy after a while, and top it off.... disk errors are annoying. I have a stupid zip drive frankensteined onto the XL currently and it sucks for portability.

maybe I will document the new install when it happens.

hey, the 2000xl is a breeze to work on once you get the 100000 screws off the bottom, lol... there is a lot of room inside, except were the scsi slot is.

Ahhhhhh... people can say what they want about the newer MPs, but today I have mostly been moving around 20gigs worth of sounds onto my new 2500's hard drive, and having come from the zip disc world I can tell ya'll it feels good! REAL GOOD... MMMMMmmmmm...

It's only been 6 months since I installed a card reader in my trusty XL, but that old beast is residing in Eastern Europe somewhere now. Long live the 2000xl... but the 2500 is much much better.
