Hey guys,

So I just got my mpc and went out to get a compact flash card for it. Found a 2gb SanDisk Ultra II card. Put it in the mpc and go to the save/load screen. When I go to the Utilit tab to format the card I get the message: "No memory card!" For some reason it wont recognize it. Anyone else running a SanDisk card? Is my reader shot or what? Its really buggin me! Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

you've not damaged the pins have you? shine a light up the card reader part and see if things look crooked....

Hmmmm, thats not a good sign...

As for the pins, they all look pretty perfect except maybe two far left pins. I guess that may be the issue?

Bummer...

Does anyone have any suggestions?

I appreciate it!

Hey mate, you could try and bend the pins back into place using a pen or something a little more gentle. If this doesn't work you can always buy another cf reader for your mpc from www.mpcstuff.com, or of course install a HDD! Are you sure that the card itself isn't faulty?

A few things to try there bud.

Hey, thanks for the advice. I will try to bend those pins back tomorrow when I get home. Hopefully I can get that to work, cause like I said it looks like there are only two pins that got messed up. Wish me luck.

As for the card itself being messed up, I dont think it is. I have a buddy with an mpc, and im gonna swap cards with him next time I see him (that is if the whole pin bending doesnt work).

Thanks again.

Well I tried my buddies card, and it still doesnt recognize it. I can see that a few of the pins are bent (maybe like 3). Im trying to get them straightened out, but its like performing microsurgery... If I cant get it, looks like I have to order a replacement. Anyone know how hard they are to install? Will I be able to figure it out on my own?

Bro, go to a place like target or walmart and cop one of those little ass tweezers that chicks use to tweez their eyebrows....thats all you need.
A homie of mine had the same problem and it was easily fixed with a set of those tweezers.

Keep in mind tho once u bend those pins back they have been weakened from the stress of being bent back and forth....in the end this can result in the pins actually breaking so be super gentle once u get the pins back in order.

Well, it seems like the whole straightening of the pins worked. Managed to get them lookin pretty good and slid the card in.

When I go try to format the card, it no longer says: No Memory Card.

Now it is telling me that there is a: System Error, and freezes up as soon as I go into the load or save menu. Once I hit Mode then Save or Load the MPC totally locks up. It lets me record and play back tracks, but that about it. I am not able to connect to the computer to see if it recognizes the card (since this is done through the save/load function. What a pain...

Does anyone have any suggestions or have seen this before? Its so strange. I would appreciate any help, cause im stumped.

My MPC used to work fine without the memory card, but as soon as I would insert the CF card the whole machine would freeze up and the screen would go blank. So I bent the pins back in place with some tweezers and it fixed the problem.. My point is, the issue with your MPC might still be bent pins... You may have straightened them out a little bit but if they're still not perfectly straight it's possible that they are causing your MPC to do weird things. Just a thought.

When you take the CF card out are you able to go into Load/Save mode? Or does the error occur even without the CF inserted?

Thanks for the info - thats good to know. I just figured that since I am no longer getting the "No Memory Card" message that the pins should be all good. When the card is out it works just fine. I am a bit scared to keep taking out the card, cause when I bent back the two pins, I could tell they were starting to get weaker - and really dont want them to break off.

It is really strange, cause when i take the card out now, it looks like all the pins are in order. They 2 bad ones are no longer bent over and look like they are making it into the holes in the card. Hmmmm.

Anyways, thanks for the info. I appreciate it. Any other assistance would be great.

Well after close inspection it looks like the issue is a broken pin. Musta happened after trying to straighten it out. I was pretty bummed because I thought I was going to have to spend another 125 bucks on a new card reader.

After further inspection I was checking out hard drives on mpcstuff. Figured that was a better deal since I can get like 120 gigs for 135 bucks.

Finally I think I have settled on this:
viewtopic.php?f=15&t=108588
The solid state mod. I will be able to run my card through the hard drive location for like $40. Gotta love that. From the thread it looks like people have had luck with it. Only down side is that I cant easily remove the card, but its not too big of a deal.

My respect for this forum just went up a bunch of notches. I can live with spending $40 extra dollars!

Thanks again for the help.

So it WAS those damn pins... man, those things are fragile. But glad you were able to diagnose the problem. Looks like that mod is definitely the way to go. 40 bucks ain't bad at all. Nice work.

Yeah those things are touchy for sure. I ordered the interface adapter last night and its on the way. Of course with my luck mpcstuff is outta the hard drive install kit. They said that the kit should be back in stock within a few weeks, so my fingers are crossed. Now I just have to play the waiting game!

Uhmmm you can get a decent hard drive for like 30-60 USD

you just need the HD install kit
